What processor is going to work?

Hi folks. So here's what I got for ya tonight. I've got a Toshiba C55t-A5222 laptop. 8gb RAM, Windows 8, but only has a Celeron 1005M processor inside. I'm wanting to upgrade the processor up to a minimum i5, or even an i7. From what I've looked up in the four days I've been Googling, it seems NOBODY has upgraded the processor in this machine, or even knows what motherboard is inside it! My question is, what processor model can I use on the board and it pass POST? I'm looking at a Corei7-3612QM (4 physical cores, 8 threads) or maybe even an i5 dual core (4 threads) if I can get it.

Yours is soldered in, it cannot be changed. Your current processor is a rPGA988B socket, so if you feel like soldering in a new chip (you can't) from this socket http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket%20G2%20(rPGA988B).html , you can't upgrade it.

Sorry, wrong socket, you can upgrade, it is not soldered. Go to that link for a list of processors in the same socket and pick one of those, and ONLY one of those.

You are mistaken, with the rest of Toshiba. Two of their reps today told me the same thing, so I investigated. My chip is not soldered. It works the same way every other board works - you take a small flat screwdriver, turn the screw at the bottom of the processor cradle counter-clockwise, and behold, the chip can be held between the index finger and the thumb. If need be I can snap a picture and show you.

Also, you can search for a motherboard for the C55t on eBay, and you will see that there is the cradle, but no processor in the board.

Ewok, many thanks for your answers. I've been staring at that exact site for two nights now. lol. My question is, I know they will physically fit into the socket, which one(s) will my BIOS support? It's the Insyde2O if it helps ya any... I've been looking at the Core i5 3230M processor as well as the i7 3612QM..

Any of them SHOULD work, worst case you need a bios update.

My first thought was your laptop wouldn't be able to handle the extra heat of a stronger cpu, but then I saw the Celeron's TDP was the same as the i7's so wow... nevermind. You'll double the cost of the laptop but that would be a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE upgrade.

One final note (question) - would I need a CPU that has the same micron technology as the 1005M that I have now? Meaning, the 1005M has a .022 micron. The i7 3612QM also has a .022 micron. As well as the 35W TDP. Wouldn't that be the best fit for such an upgrade?
CTurbo - I've upgraded the RAM once from 4gb to 8gb recently. Once I get my funding from school in the spring I'm going to max it (16gb) and do the i7 upgrade. The only reason is because this computer, not only for its looks, but it has the touchscreen and I like its aesthetic design. And it's cheaper to upgrade than to go buy new lol.
