What PSU should I buy?

Hi

I was decided to buy an EVGA Supernova p2 650W, but, after I read some reviews about this model, I discovered that it doesn't have over temperature protection (OTP). Should I be worried about this detail and buy another PSU?

Well, then I looked at the Corsair RM650i. It is as good as evga with ripple suppression, but there isn't a bypass relay to keep the thermistor cool, so I think it is not a good choice (correct if I am wrong). Then I looked the Seasonic x650. It has OTP, bypass relay, but the ripple suppression is not as good as the evga and corsair. So, I can't find the perfect 650w psu. What should I do?

OPP (Over Power Protection)
Protection from when a power supply exceeds its maximum rated capacity.
OVP (Over Voltage Protection)
Continuously checking the voltages at each rail point and will kick in if they surpass their set limits.

I don't plan to buy a second GPU, maybe replace the 1070 in the future for something better like 1080 or a new model that will be releases in future (1170, maybe, hehe)

The point is that I was decided to buy the P2 650W, but now I am very worried about the lack of OTP =(

I read that voltage stabilizers are bad to PSU because they switch between voltage outputs. So, when there is an swicth, the voltage in the input of the PSU downs to zero for some miliseconds. So, the thermistor, as it is hot, has at this moment low resistence, so the inrush current is high and I read that It can cause damage to the PSU.

 


You're just overworrying I think. If a bypass relay was necessary Corsair's engineers would have implemented it.
 



So, which PSU would you buy? evga supernova p2 650w or corsair rm650x?

 
They're very similar but the P2 650 has teeny better performance than the RM650x and is more efficient. Between the two for the same price I'd take the P2 no question. Only thing I warn you about is if you run multiple hard drives the 100mm length between each SATA header I've found to be troublesomely short on EVGA units.
 



Well, if you ensure I should not be woried about OTP, I think I should buy, then, EVGA p2.

 


Don't you think 550w is enough for me?


Besides, I still have a great difficulty to choose between p2 and rmx. P2 lacks OTP and rmx lacks bypass relay. Btw, take a look at this:

Here it is shown that is used just a thermistor for inrush priotection.

 


You can't tell how a PSU performs just because it works. For PSUs that should probably last 15 years for most people having it working for some months is no great accomplish nor any indication it is great. If you're talking about the functionality aspect then first-hand experience may help.

I'd also pick the RM550x though - saves money over the 650 P2.
 


Thanks for the tip. Looking at amazon, rm550x is some cents cheaper than the rm650x, so I 650 would be better in this case. Unfortunately, I am still worried about the lack of bypass relay since, I think the thermistor should be kept cool.

Damm. I am realy In doubt about this little problems in P2 and RMx.
