Hello! I need help on deciding which PSU I should get for this setup; trying to work within somewhat of a budget (buying parts a little at a time). I've tried Newegg's PSU Calculator and eXtreme Power Supply Calc but I am unsure on them so I wanted to confirm here before committing to a 1000 PSU (if I even needed one).

Goals:
-Current cost is at $795 w/ tax; would like to spend around $1000 for now, more can be purchased down the line.
-Dual GTX 480 SLI (please factor this power cost in for down the line)
-Possible RAID-0 setup in the future (with SSDs/HDDs)
-Overclocking capabilities

Any recommendations?

A system using two GTX 480s in SLI mode requires a 750W PSU with at least 60A on the 12V rails and two 75W 6-pin PCIe power connectors and two 150W 8-pin PCIe power connectors; stick with a good quality PSU. A 750W PSU barely meets the minimum amperage requirements and leaves almost no overhead for OC of the CPU/GPUs. For your requirements, I would recommend an 850W PSU.

I am most likely going to go with the CORSAIR TX850 or Antec HCG-900. My question is what is the difference (adv/disadv) between a single +12V Rail vs multiple?

TX850 has a single +12V@70A
+3.3V@30A, +5V@30A, +12V@70A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@3.0A

HCG-900 has 4 +12V1@40A:
+3.3V@25A, +5V@25A, +12V1@40A, +12V2@40A, +12V3@40A, +12V4@40A, -12V@0.5A, +5VSB@3.0A

In Thermaltake's calculator this system goes for 708w (SLI) w/o overclocking and 731w with 4.6Ghz @ 1.4v. That's w/o any GPU overclocking. If you go with the 850w PSU wouldn't this configuration be too much for this PSU, what about the PSU degradation running at 90% capacity? Shouldn't the optimal configuration be one that gets a PSU that handles the full load at 50% capacity?

GTX480 is a heat producing power hog that is a couple of generations old.
Buying one now with aspirations of SLI in the future probably isn't a very good idea, it's cheap because they are clearing them out and likely won't have them much longer.
In my opinion you would be better off increasing your budget enough to grab a GTX670 and go with 750 watt psu to be ready for SLI
