Hello, I just recently ordered a 7700k i7 processor and a z270x gigabyte MB and am switching from AMD to Intel. I want to ask... I do have a Corsasir VS650 PSU and am not sure about if it can run the 7700k properly... Also Id like to overclock in the future. Any advice of what PSU to look for? (I know its not good to cheap out on psu but I dont really have a huge budget right now so I wish you could also send me some not so expensive ones)

THANKS!

In terms of power being supplied, your current 650W PSU (which provides 50A or 600W at the 12V rail) would have more than enough juice to power your current system:

Your i7-7700K is a 91W CPU (https://ark.intel.com/products/97129/Intel-Core-i7-7700K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_50-GHz), and depending on how much you will OC, may go ~20W over (or somewhere in the vicinity of ~110W at peak OC load). Your GTX 960 GPU is a very low-powered component, only using about 120W of power (https://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-960/specifications). The rest of your system (RAM, MB, Fans, SSD, HDD) will not consume more than 100W. So, you'd be looking at ~350W max. power draw.

HOWEVER, despite your current PSU able to...

HOWEVER, despite your current PSU able to supply enough watts/amps to your system, the quality of the VS650 series is in question. The VS series is an entry-level PSU, only 3-year warranty, non-modular, and has mediocre built quality. It is also already a discontinued model due to such.

If your budget permits, especially if you are planning to balance your system by upgrading to a proper and more powerful GPU to match your CPU, I would personally look into better-quality PSUs with ample wattage. Here are some suggestions you can take a closer look at:

Seasonic M12II-520 EVO
(520W | 40A or 480W at 12V | Fully-Modular | 40C rated oper. temp. | 5-year warranty | OEM: Seasonic)
SeaSonic - 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($53.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Corsair CX550M
(550W | 45.8A or 550W at 12V | Semi-Modular | 40C rated oper. temp. | 5-year warranty | OEM: CWT)
Corsair - CXM 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($59.99 @ Amazon)

Seasonic G-550
(550W | 45A or 540W at 12V | Semi-Modular | 50C rated oper. temp. | 5-year warranty | OEM: Seasonic)
SeaSonic - G 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($68.99 @ SuperBiiz)

EVGA SuperNova G2 550
(550W | 45.8A or 550W at 12V | Fully-Modular | 50C rated oper. temp. | 7-year warranty | OEM: Super Flower)
EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($88.77 @ Amazon)

Corsair RM550x
(550W | 45.8A or 550W at 12V | Fully-Modular | 50C rated oper. temp. | 10-year warranty | OEM: CWT)
Corsair - RMx 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($89.99 @ Amazon)

All of the above PSUs are significantly better in terms of quality, performance, and reliability, compared to the Corsair VS650 you currently have. Such 550W models listed above have ample juice to power your current OR future rig (for example, upgrading your GTX 960 to a GTX 1060-6GB, GTX 1070, or GTX 1080), with or without OC'ing.

Thank you SO MUCH! But I have one more question.. I plan on upgrading to 1070 in the next year or so... So wouldnt it be better to go for 600w - 700w PSU? rahter than 550w? I was looking at for example FROTON Raider S 650W 80+Silver or some PSU from BeQuiet.

Not really. The 1070 is supposed to be a 170W card. So even with everything else you'll be around 300W still. (I disagree with the previous use size. You won't be north of 300W with the 1060.) 550W is perfect for that size use. I would not get a 650-750W PSU for a 1070.

Yeah but I still am a bit afraid that 550w wont be enough I think Ill go with a 600w one so I have more room to OC

Okay so can you tell me if this is a good choice? EVGA 550 B3 / EVGA 650 B3
