Question What ram do I need? thanks

Hi, I have a think station E32 this is my system with the Xeon 1240 v3.

My current system The full tower one not the smaller one.

I noticed that I need 12800 ddr3 ram. I noticed however that when I look for ram they often have a letter after the 12800 like R or U, some have nothing at all. Can someone please clarify this for me?

A quick search online indicates that this is PC3 12800 desktop memory. It states that the unit comes with ECC memory, but if I am reading right can also use non ECC.
This nomenclature is also for laptop memory.
