Based on this page -- https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/amd/epyc/7601#Memory_controller You want 8 DIMMs per socket. Two sockets means multiples of 16 DIMMs. That motherboard has 16 DIMM sockets, so for maximum memory performance you want to fill them all. Sixteen 16GB DIMMs would give you 256GB.

An equal number per socket. Use the motherboard manual to determine the proper slots.

How does 4 x 8GB from your previous post equal 24GB ? That would be 3x 8GB ...

One socket will work better than the other. The motherboard manual will show which DIMM slots to put one stick, 2 sticks, etc.
