I want to upgrade the ram on my mother's old emachines computer because she often complains about it running very slowly.

The pc is completely stock model EL1333G-01w, currently has 2gb of ram.

So I have 2 questions, first of all how much would upgrading it to 4gb of ram help? She mostly only uses the pc for looking at facebook and youtube.

And second, what kind of memory to get? Would http://www.amazon.com/Upgrade-OptiPlex-Desktop-Mini-Tower-PC2-6400/dp/B0049QMYQY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1416754760&sr=8-5&keywords=4GB+kit+%282GBx2%29+DDR2+PC2-6400+Unbuffered+NON-ECC+1.8V+256Meg+x+64 work? or does it just have to be ddr2 memory?

Solution
The upgrade advisor from Crucial calls it as DDR2 PC2-6400

But...it may not be a case of too little RAM. What other junk is running in the background?
May be time for just a little software maintenance. Clean out temp files, defrag the drive, find out what is running on startup that you didn't know was there.

For an 'old' PC, often the case is simply too much cruft built up. Possibly time for a reinstall of the OS?
What OS is it? XP, Vista, Win 7? 32bit or 64bit?

You can obtain the relevant OS ISO from here:
http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/

Save all of her personal stuff (files, application installs, Favorites, etc) elsewhere.
Burn to disk
Install

If you want to go down that path.
