What RTX card to get. 2080 or 2080ti

So i've been using my 2x msi 980 4g in sli for almost 3-4 years and i really need a upgrade. I've just upgraded from my I7 4790k to my new I7 8700k and i need a new GPU to complete my upgrade. So i have enough for either the 2080 or the 2080ti. I don't really play at 4k or 1440p but i might upgrade to a 1440p monitor (if you have a cheap decent one you can recommend please do) and i kinda want a gpu that can handle the upgrade and still give me a smooth experience. If you have a recommendation for what type of 2080/2080ti i should get that would ofcourse be helpful.

I wouldn't even consider the 2080 at the moment personally. the 1080 ti performs as good or better in all the games I have seen tested for quite a bit cheaper. The 2080 ti i performs quite a bit better than the 1080 ti, certainly not $700+ better but at least it does perform better. These 2xxx cards are pretty horrible in terms of value imo.

If you have the budget for a 2080 ti I guess get that even though it's extremely expensive for what it is. If you don't I would go for the 1080 ti over the 2080.

What monitor do you currently have? 980 sli even a single 980 should be plenty for most games at 1080p 60fps, your money would go to waste with any card more powerful than say a 1070, even that.

Current pricing situation makes recommending 2080 bit tricky.
That is due to the fact that at the moment, performance wise, 108Ti=2080 with possibly in the future, DLSS will give 2080 an edge once/IF games support it.
In US, 1080Ti prices start at around 600 and 2080's in 800

In year or so, that it would most likely take for new games to start supporting DLSS, new cards will be out, bigger, better, stronger, you know the deal.

so.. yeah.. Personally, at 1080P and 1440P I would recommend skipping 2080 and going with 1080Ti, you save money and can reuse it in year or two and get the futuer 3080 or 2180 however the naming scheme will go.

2080Ti at current prices? 1200+ dollars is... not advisable in my opinion, much less so if you are not aiming for 4k screens. (pretty much only point where you need more than 1080Ti at the moment and 1080Ti can still give you almost 60fps at that resolution)

I live in a country where the 1080ti is pretty much sold out everywhere and the 1080ti costs as much as a 2080 (1000€) Which is like 300$ more than anyone in the US has to pay. The 2080ti is about 1300€. Considering that the 1080ti and 2080 perform the same rn and cost the same i would go with the 2080 over the 1080ti considering Raytracing which i might not use and the dlss which will give the card an edge in some of my favorite games.

The 1080ti costs as much as a 2080 (1100$) and the monitor costs about 600$ where i live so with the 1080ti and the monitor i would have to pay about 1700$//1600€ which is about 300€ more than one 2080ti

The 2080 and the 1080ti costs the same where i live except for one card that's on sale which makes the 1080ti about 800$ which is neat. But i don't know if i should buy it considering i might miss out on testing ray tracing and dlss

Ah - you didn’t specify you live where things are so absurdly overpriced.

What about a 1070 (or 1070ti) plus the Dell? I’d take gsync over dlss and rt every single time. Or, wait a month on the 2070 so you still get dlss.

I already have a 1080p gsync monitor so if i just add dlss on top of that i will have a pretty butter smooth experience. And the 1070s and 1070tis won't give me as high of a performance.

Well, that works too. I just feel like 1070 and higher is wasted on 1080p. 1440p is so crisp. Have fun with whatever you choose!

Its a dead heat btwn the 1080ti and 2080 right now in benchmarks. The 2080 has arguably more value built into it with the tensor and ray tracing cores. I would go 2080 IF the prices are similar for where you live. Driver updates and such with DLSS should put the 2080 a good percentage above the 1080ti down the road. The 2080ti is basicly a titan, performance per dollar is high.
