Just wondering if anyone knows witch ssd drive is the most power efficient that uses the SATA III interface.

I purchased a Nvidia shield pro 2017 model that has a regular sata III hard drive.

It doesn't run on a battery or anything like that but for a device that runs constantly i just want a really efficient drive.

It is easy to find the best peforming drive or the fastest drive but not the most power efficient drive.

Power efficient in what usage?
Read, write, idle....
SATA SSDs don't use a whole lot of power.

I expect you'd not see more than a dollar or two, annually, between any of the major manufacturers.

I have 4x SATA III SSDs in my main system. (all 1TB)

Idle usage:
Crucial MX500 - 65mW

"The Samsung 860 EVO's power consumption never goes much above 2W, regardless of the workload."

SATA SSDs are very very power efficient. Unlikely you'd find any significant diff between any major brands.

I would think it would be at idle alot but im not sure. I don't think im going to strain the drive that much but its running app data alot since its basically an android tv box.

Just want to put less strain on the shields little power supply brick.

from the information above the Crucial MX500 is the winner

I ended up just going with a fast drive...LOL Cause at least i know it will perform well.

I bought a Samsung 870 evo vnand.

I found it difficult on deciding on what drive would use the least amount of power.

Are manufacturers still dumbing down ssd drives without telling the public or making them worse without notification to save money.

Or is that not going on anymore? or is that a myth or something. I read that manufacturers were doing that.

Also with the 870 evo has it always been VNAND or is that a recent upgrade to the 870 evo? Cause some say 870 evo while others say 870 evo vnand? Are they 2 different drives.

I have found picking a SSD sata III is kinda difficult these days but that is just my opinion.
