what schould i pick?

schould i pick an i5 4440 with an gtx 970 and a b85 mobo or an i5 4690k r9 280x and z97 mobo?

If your going with a 4690k its your best bet to get a good z97 board so you can get the most out of it .. You may not be able to overclock as well if any with the other boards,

I would get "i5 4690k r9 280x and z97 mobo", it will run most modern game at descent resolution and you can overclock down the line. Thus saving money compared to the first choice when you will need a little more juice from your rig.
