The HDD in partner's laptop went on the fritz on Monday. She tried startup repair 5 times, all of which failed. I was planning to backup her data and reinstall Windows anyway, so I figured I would just do it then.
I connected the drive it my PC with a SATA to USB3 cable, however, when I tried opening it in File Explorer, the green bar slowly crept along until eventually I was told that the drive was inaccessible. Disk Management wouldn't even load with the drive connected. I've tried using TestDisk, Recuva, and Acronis True Image, all of which have had essentially the same problem: they come to grinding halt with the drive connected.
TestDisk opens, but doesn't get past "please wait", and Recuva and Acronis don't open at all with the drive connected, but load instantaneously as soon as the drive is disconnected. We're both rather pissed off, especially seeing as she only needs the "Users" folder, as it contains all of her personal files.
Thoughts?
