Question What should I do about my GPU drivers?

Hi all!, newbie in terms of GPU stuff be kind lol.
earlier this day, I was gifted a cheap GPU as an upgrade for my GT 1030 which I'm excited about, its just that "AISURIX" brand name GPU, likely refurbished/recycled. it's a GTX 1050 4Gb DDR5 (non Ti but 4Gb yes), before I mess with it, should I completely wipe my current GPU drivers for GT 1030?
(which is version 32.0.15.6094 according to Device Manager)
then plug the 1050 then install a new driver?
or I could just plug it in an use it as is, or plug the 1050, download a new driver from nVidia website, without removing the old driver then install it?
What should I do?, id appreciate a detailed guide as I don't want to mess this up, and if I miss any details, please do remind me in the replies, I'll reply as soon as I can, Thanks in advance!

i have installed the GPU, here are some issues i found:

-1st, as soon as i plug it, it didn't display anything, then i hold the power button, it automatically restarted and finally worked, adjusted its image automatically too.

-Then i ran some errands and put my PC in Hibernate mode as i usually do, came back, powered it on, it got stuck in turning itself off and on repeatedly, unplugged it from the power, cleared CMOS, removed RAM, booted fine after.

-Then i decided to install the latest driver available for it on nVidia website, the version of drivers it had on it was i think 560 something based on Nvidia Experience app, then the latest was 566.14 something, downloaded it, installed it, finished, tested my game War Thunder, the FPS somehow got worse, its having some sort of hiccups, it was about 80-100 FPS on medium/custom settings, it got down to 20-31FPS, then i Alt+Tab, it returned to normal FPS, then again and again.

-Turned it off, put it back on my desk after some troubleshooting, played some youtube video, it had some glitch stutter thing, both video and audio.

Now i dont know if the Driver update messed it up or something, im not sure anymore, i have clicked the "Roll back driver" option on device manager, not sure if it fixes it, or i should just DDU, I'll see what I can do.

i did the DDU thing, cleared everything, redownloaded the 560.94 version of drivers, mid download, the resolution fixed itself again, im assuming windows did something about drivers.

i then installed the downloaded 560.94 drivers, performed a Clean install hoping it does something, still nothing, Game still stutters, Video playback everything still doing that weird stuttering glitch thing.

i downloaded and installed the version 566.14 drivers directly from nvidia experience app hoping it does something, but no
still the same issue as last time, but now when i tried to run my game again, it blue screen of death
Stop Code: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

I now reinstalled my last known GPU drivers when I was still using the GT 1030, driver version 384.94 just to see if that does it, nope, PC still tweakin out.

if you know what drivers the new card needs just install them, I don't think it matters if there are other drivers on your PC, and I don't think it's possible to mess this up. However both cards are nvidia so it will likely just work if you do nothing, because the other drivers are nvidia, but it's still best to have the most up to date drivers

someone else with more knowledge on software could back me up tho, I'm a linux user and I don't know how stuff works in windows or if it is different

It's same generation GPU so it should work on 1030 drivers, you can update them later on.

Scroll down to "GameInputService" and double click on it and click on "Stop"
Then see if there's any difference.
If not go back in and click "Start" to run the service again. This service can be buggy and cause lag and crashes/freezing in games.

Also, download DirectX from Microsoft and re-install.....may help.

There may well be a reason you were "gifted" that old GPU. Did you verify that it had no problems in its previous system?

I did it but there's 2 game input service, and I can't select stop on either of them

Is stop greyed out?

Try right-clicking on it and select disable and reboot if you can
There should only be one service.

You can uninstall it.

Uninstall the Microsoft GameInput Service​

There's only one now, and the stop button is still greyed out, the Service Status says: Stopped, already
looked for the Microsoft game input services on Apps after restarting, it's gone, and the issue still persists

Other settings that can increase gpu performance....

Go into nvidia control panel and click on the 3D settings on the left of the page. Scroll through the 3D settings and make sure its set to High Performance where you can select it.

Power Management mode = Prefer Maximum Performance

Texture Filtering-Quality = High Performance

Then click Apply > OK then reboot and try.

Did everything including another proper DDU operation, Safe mode etc, checked the GPU drivers on GPU Z, screen blacked out for a sec and the drivers are back to 560.94, I guess it automatically installed? idk, downloaded directx from Microsoft, the app says there's already the latest version, did the Nvidia control panel stuff, nothing, it's still going crazy, might just be a bad card cause it's just a no name brand after all, but issues only started when I updated the GPU drivers so now idk, I can use the PC fine, but it's just that random stutter/glitch when I do something like launch a program, watch a YT video or that, launch the game, I'm at my wits end, Thank you for responding by the way.

looks like @KingLoki knows much more about this than I do as a linux user, drivers support in debian is often patchy at best and a lot of luck is usually involved, but I did use to get driver issues that caused stutters and glitches on startup and during video's, I also use to get a thing where when you move a window it left a trail behind that would clear after a few seconds

it could still be a bad card tho

are you meaning the new card worked OK until you installed the right drivers?

Okay just a few things come to mind that I have had success on working on glitchy GPU's.

Take them with a grain of salt/ use them or not but here we go.

Is the card needing deep cleaning, is it a dusted caked heatsink under the fan?

Have you cleaned the contacts on the GPU that plug into the PCI-E slot. I use an old T-shirt with rubbing alcohol 93%.

You did the DDU but could try DDU in safe mode to make sure.

Wondering if you have tried to see if your game 's needs a patch?

Anyone remember the first Farcry 2004 without patching. It was like the bad side of a drug trip with video glitches.

Could you be missing something in the C++ redistributions 2010/and 2015 just adding that out there. Some games just hate it if missing those.

Last but not least if you have a spare SSD is AS A TEST unplug your current working Windows drive , put in the spare drive and install a fresh windows+ all drivers for the system than the GTX 1050 driver.

Add the games as see what happens. By doing the new OS you have removed anything the old Windows could be throwing into the mix.
