Hello,
Sorry I am new here. I have this laptop it is a Dell Inspiron 5379 Signature Edition. The other day I was gaming and my usb ports suddenly stoped working. They are the 2 ports of the left of the computer. I have tried updating my drivers and restarting my computer. I am relativly new to computers and I was wondering hat happened to them. I have looked in the deivce manager and saw that there was a USB Root Hub (3.0) and 2 USB Composite Devices. I was wondering what I could do to get my 2 usb ports back. I also tried a usb stick in one and it connected. The only problem is when I try to use my mouse and keyboard with them. I plug them in to the other port(on the right side) and they work fine. I was hoping if the answer was not doing a clean reset of windows.

I was wondering if any one could help me.

Thanks,

This sounds like a hardware issue where a ribbon cable came lose internally in the laptop. I would open the laptop and make sure the cables are connected. Likely those usb ports arent connected to the mobo directly unlike the other side usb ports.
Hello remixislandmusic,
I was wondering what this meant. I wanted to know what mobo meant and what a ribbon cable came lose. Also if it is would I need to send my computer away to repair it our could I do it myself. Also how would I know.

Thanks,

Inside of the laptop there is usually a motherboard which houses your processor and ram. Sometimes the other side of the laptop has the usb ports. These are connected to the motherboard using a small paper thin cable. This may have been dislodged and isnt connecting the usb ports to your motherboard. You may be able to repair this but i dont know much about your laptop. Try to lookup an ifix it teardown of that laptopand see if you are comfortable doing that.

Dear remixislandmusic
I looked up the infix tear down and I can not seem to know what you are talking about. I have included a photo of the laptop. Could you please show me. The image is in the website.
