What should i upgrade to, without regretting it?

Hello everyone,

I currently have an fx-6300 with an r9 380 2gb and 8gb of ddr3 ram. I have problems running my favourite games at 1080p at decent settings. So i would like to upgrade to perhaps a gtx 1060 3g or rx 580 4g. The problem is, that to run games like bf1 and bfv(in the future) i will probably also need to upgrade my cpu. I was thinking of a ryzen 3 1200 and 8 gb of ddr4. For that i would also need a mobo upgrade. In total, this would cost me around €500 where i live. To me this is a bit much for a pc i already spent €800 on a few years ago.
So, if i want my pc to run for 2-3 years extra, could i upgrade to something like a 1050ti/rx550 and a new cpu(perhaps even fx8300) and have money left for a few games? Or should i only upgrade my gpu to a 1060 or rx 580? Or is ryzen and a new gpu really necessary?

Fyi. I would like to be able to run most modern games at 1080, high/max settings with 60 fps min. I would also like for my system to be valid for another 2-3 years.

What is the make and model of your PSU? How old is your PSU? If that is possible to drive your new build today, you can drop all of the 500Euro's towards the system and not worry about the PSU. You could also forgo the cases purchase provided it doesn't conflict with the parts you want to install within it.

Where are you located? I wouldn't ask you to look into an FX even if it was the end of the world. Perhaps we can help sort out a build for you provided we knew what your absolute budget is.

Cpu: fx6300
Mobo: asrock 970 pro3 r2.0
Ram: 8gb 1600 ddr3 furyx
Storage: 250g ssd+1tb hdd 7200rpm
Gpu r9 380 2gb (not4gb)
Psu: 520 W Seasonic bronze ~ 3 years ago
Chassis: bitfenix neos
Os: win 10 64 home

I live in the Netherlands, so pc parts are quite expensive , even when buying from amazon Germany.

My budget would be around 350 max, so i can also buy some additional games. I know the budget is tight, but this would be the ideal amount.

I also have a wifi card, which can go in either pcie 1 and pci, so if i would upgrade to Ryzen (for which micro atx is cheaper) the pcie 16x slot should be the lowest slot, so it wont blow against the wifi card.

hmmm... I honestly dont think my r9 380 2GB will hold up. I run bf 1 at around 50 fps at low settings. Or is that due to a cpu bottleneck? Would seem quite unlikely

The R9 380 is faster than the gtx 1050 ti. Your low performance numbers are most likely caused by the cpu.

alright, thanks! So a ryzen 5. Would you recommend single channel 16gb over dual channel 8 GB? Or what kind of RAM would you recommend? I've heard that with BFV you need more than 16 gb of ram, also concidering my r9 380 only has 2 gb of vram.

If i were to upgrade my gpu after that, what would be a good upgrade for around 200? perhaps an RX 570 or gtx 1060 3g?

6gb 1060 or rx 580 (or the rumoured rx 680) at least i'd say. gtx 1070 or better would be optimal.

Yea, but it's gonna be much slower too. You get what you pay for.
