Hi, I am currently using AMD A6 5400K, Radeon HD 5450 and 4GB of DDR3 RAM.

I am planning on upgrading to Radeon 6970 and Athlon X4 860K

Solution
I suggest to save until you can afford both items for the upgrade. You won't be happy with either a CPU or GPU upgrade alone. Trust me, I had the A6 5400k before.

If you don't want to wait you could upgrade to a A8 6600k and use the integrated graphics for the time being. It costs around $80.

Also the A6's integrated graphics should be more powerful than the 5450, so I would go ahead and remove the 5450 and see if your games become more playable. Also make sure to use DDU to cleanly uninstall any left over drivers before installing the drivers for the A6.

Overclocking can be done with software but it is better to go into the BIOS of your PC (normally entered by pressing F11 or Delete when prompted during booting). From there you can find the setting called something along the lines of "overclocking settings" or "CPU tweaker". From there you can slightly increase the ratio/multiplier until you reach a safe overclock.

You'd be better googling it. I haven't overclocked much before myself.

Also, the cooler supports AMD I think, at least if you look at the website. If not, try any of these: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/parts/cpu-cooler/#qq=1&c=23&sort=a5&w=0

Since I have 4gb RAM, do I buy another stick, will it work?

Check if you currently have two 2GB sticks or one 4GB stick, if two then it might just be worth upgrading to an entirely new 8GB set. If one, just get a new 4GB stick.

Go to youtube and search A8 6600k HD 8570D. There you will find recorded gameplay videos with that APU. The FPS will be slightly lower due to the recording program.

Or you could search A8 6600k gaming benchmarks on google. It should be a large upgrade from your A6.

I think that SSDs are great and are a good addition to any mid-high range gaming build, but for a PC like yours, it's simply not worth the money. I'd focus on things that directly affect performance of the PC, like processors, RAM and graphics cards.

My suggestions to you:

Step 1: Sell the HD 5450. I just sold mine for £20 on Ebay.
Step 2: Buy and install an AMD A8-6600K processor.
Step 3: Buy and install an extra 4GB of RAM.
Step 4: Buy and install an R9 270 or GTX 750Ti, depending on wattage of power supply.

In total, these will come to around £190, considering the money from the sold 5450. I'd upgrade the things in this order, to get the best performance out of your build. It's not that much money in the long term!

Hope I've helped.

What would happen if I add a r7 260x or something similar?

860K is the wrong socket, and it has no intergrated graphics. An FM2 APU would have better intergrated graphics than what he has right now, and also would not bottleneck a decent graphics card in the future.

His best choice, as already decided, would be an A8-6600K

Hi, I have just installed the processor into my computer. I have noticed a huge difference in my gaming experience, as in the game 'Chivalry: Medieval warfare ' I have been able to maintain good FPS, whereas with my old processor I couldn't even get 25 FPS with very low settings.

It says in system requirements that for my GPU I need at least 1GB dedicated Video RAM. Is this true?
