what software is best to create something like Clockwork 4

If I wanted to make similar animations to clockwork 4 what is the best software (tried cinema 4d couldn't move a character after rigging it and found it hard to use but might use it for certain animation like his water one but really need something to do the basic, just have a character moving and shooting on a background and can add effects later). I don't have any experience so something simple or youtube videos and it won't be to nearly the same level of clockwork 4
