I asked here recently what part should i upgrade and the answers are to upgrade my gpu or the cpu.

so what should I upgrade first? GPU or CPU?
I have an CPU: phenom II x4 955 OCed to 4ghz
and GPU: HD sapphire 7770

Solution
I wouldn't recommend any other air cooler based on value/performance.

If you want a quad core intel CPU: i5-4460 or i5-4690k - More expensive but you can overclock the 'k' series CPU

AMD alternative

This CPU will last you a long time and the motherboard is good for the money too.

After this you can save up for a GPU if you wish.

This CPU is a duel core but can be overclocked very well ~4.6Ghz but as games will start using more cores in the future it may only last you 2-3 years ?

you went over 250 bucks!

I have a hyper212x. any other option?

I really dislike AMD so im probably not the best person to ask for AMD tbh :)

Solution

i mean that you can remove the cooler from the budget. I really want to switch to intel and i want to overclock my cpu a bit. so if the i5-4690k is the best for my rig ill just wait till i earn some money to buy it. thanks for the help man!

If you want to overclock you want a motherboard with more power phases such as the ASRock Extreme4

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($222.75 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 EXTREME4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($119.99 @ Micro Center)
Total: $342.74

Again the price goes up - if you want to get a mild - mid overclock a 6 phase design such as the ASRock Z97 PRO4 would suffice for $20 less.
