What to upgrade?

I'm planning on upgrading now/soon but I'm indecisive about what to upgrade.

I currently have an i7 920 @ 3.5 ghz, Asus DCUII R9 280x, and a random crappy Samsung s24a350h 1080p monitor.

I was looking at 6700k / evga 980 Ti / 1440p monitor area.

I read Pascal GPU's were coming early/mid 2016 that's why I am hesitant with GPU upgrade.

My current budget is around 800, don't really want to spend more than that on an upgrade at the moment.

Your current GPU would certainly struggle at 2560x1440, yes, but a single 980 Ti (or the Pascal equivalent) will be ideal for that resolution at 60hz. Given that some games still have a frame-rate lock and can't reach 144 frames-per-second, I would stick to 60hz and keep my £100.
I'm actually really sad that I missed out on the scan sales for 980 ti's £100 off! Might just switch cases for now and what 1440p monitors are there that are highly recommended?

I've been looking at that monitor it seems to be one of the best within that price range, right? Considering it has the tilt/swivel/height adjustment. 1440p 144hz will venture into the 450+ minimum, wouldn't it? For a good one it'd be at least 600 I think.

Also my GPU wouldn't be able to handle max settings at 1440p let alone 1440p 144hz.
