I'v been thinking about upgrading my motherboard and cpu , and im not quite sure what i should upgrade to.

The thing is that i recently bought new ddr3 ram and a gtx 1060,
and only heard after i bought it that i can't use ddr3 memory on most of the 1151 socket motherboards.

So my main question is should i upgrade to the second newest socket or just get a new cpu for this motherboard ? or go with the new 1150 socket and skylake cpu?

Im not going to buy ddr4 memory in a long time because i only just bought this ddr3 memory.

My specs atm are:

i5 3470 3,2ghz
8gb ddr3 ram 1600mhz
Msi Gtx 1060
XFX 550W Core Edition 80+ bronze
Windows 10 pro

Solution
personally i wouldn't bother upgrading unless you were willing to shell out the cash on an i7 6700, i7 6700k or i5 6600k (and overclock it).

Damn missclicked for best solution... Well i would have about an 300e to spend on a i5 6600k and a new motherboard if it fits that price range

It is not really worth to upgrade- better spend money on bigger monitor, hi-end speakers, etc. Also, if your motherboard is Z-series- with aftermarket cooler you can overclock your current CPU to up to ~4.1GHz.

hmmm not really, i5 6600k ~240e, Z mobo ~110e, you will then need a cpu cooler for the i5 as well. and then ram upgrade.

honestly wouldn't worry about it at the moment, your cpu is still a good match for the 1060. maybe keep an eye out for a second hand i7 4790k or the like then you can keep your RAM.
