Hi. I'm 69,retired and a gamer.
I currently have a modest gaming system comprising:
I9 9900 K Z390 Gigabyte Designare MB 32 gigs Ram LGA 1151
RTX 3080 GPU.
I don't need to upgrade at this time but I have an urge to do so.
since I have a limited cash flow to do so
Given the current inventory of available components with their listed prices
what would you upgrade What would be your priority.
GPU or CPU/MB/ Memory
Thanks in advance for the opinions.

High end GPUs are still quite expensive and your current one is still a solid performer.

On the rest, to upgrade to a more modern config, you would need a new CPU, motherboard, and (likely) memory.

What is your working budget?

What storage devices do you have (SSD, HDD)?

Solid system.
Since you don't realy need to upgrade it, you could go for
new bigger size, higher resolution screen,
better gaming chair,
mechanical keyboard or
something like that. :)
That was fast! Thanks for the reply.
I play on a 65 inch Samsung 4 K 60HZ tv from a distance of 9 Ft, sitting on my couch in my living room.
I attached my Thermaltake gaming keyboard along with my Microsoft trackball mouse to a light weight piece of wood which is suspended in front of me by a harness that attaches to the wood base leaving the components hanging in front of me with no hand support needed I will probably go to 240 HZ on the TV once this Samsung kicks the bucket but for now it's good.
Thanks again for the opinion.

When you have the itch and the funds, consider a upgrade.
What is your budget?

Is your C drive a ssd? If not, that is the first upgrade.

What is your monitor?
A larger/wider, higher resolution monitor is a very satisfying upgrade..

What kinds of games do you play?
Fast action games need strong graphics cards.

More cpu centric games like strategy, mmo and sims need fast single thread processors.
Try this simple test:
Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
This makes the graphics card loaf a bit.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

What is the make/model of your psu?
If a graphics upgrade is in order, you may need a psu upgrade.

Your i9-9900K was tops in it's time some 6 years ago.
If you have not done so, it can be overclocked for some added 15% performance.

Past that, you will need a modern motherboard, perhaps $200 and a perhaps a $300 processor like a i5-13600K.
Your ddr4 ram can be reused.

Hi, Sorry for the delay in answering. My intended budget is around $ 1000.00 . My system is fully SSD (1/2 TB x 2) and 1 M2 (2 TB) along with 1 sata 2 tb internal with a 2 tb external usb drive for backups.
I was pricing a CPU/MB MEM upgrade around $900.00 off of Newegg but haven't made a decision. With the 5000 series GPU's coming soon I was going to wait to upgrade the GPU when the prices drop. I historically did not do upgrades until my current system specs stopped meeting the recommended requirements of the games I like or intend to buy.. So right now, this is just a flirt. Just thinking about it and would like other gamers opinions.
Thank You !
