I recently purchased a refurbished workstation computer. it only has 8gb ram. I'd like to add more but not sure what's in there. I think it's DDR3. the system has a max of 64gb but 4 of the slots appear to be under a cooling fan. if I wanted to add just another 8gb is there a special way to add it? not sure how to get at the other slots. The system is an HP Z420. I took a photo of the memory but don't know how to add it to this

8gb 2rx8 pc3-12800E-11-13-E3

kingston memory

Solution
CPU-Z memory tab will tell you exactly what ram you have installed.
Here is info on memory for the HP Z420:

Plan on adding ram with the same specs as what you already have.
The first addition needs to go into a slot covered up in order to get faster dual channel operation.
It is an easy process to remove the fan assembly for access,
Here is a youtube video for installing ram in a similar HP Z420 workstation.
