My first machine was a Packard Bell machine, containing:

486 DX2/66
8 Mb RAM
*unknown graphics card*
500 mb HD (I think)
15" monitor
Sound Blaster sound card

That was what I remember from it 😉

My system: Intel Pentium 4 3.0, 800FSB / TwinMOS 1Gb DDR400 / MSI 875P Neo / Sapphire Radeon 9800Pro / Antec TruePower 550W / 2x Western Digital Raptor / Hercules G.T XP /
SamsungDVD / Lite-On CDRW

DataTrain 80286 Running at 6Mhz then I figured ou the 12Mhz FAST setting eventually.

40mb seagate harddrive,
16color video adapter + ega monitor
5 1/2 floppy + 1.44mb floppy.

Favorite game was Commander Keen series. Passed them all!

DOS 5.0 and Windows 3.1 loaded on. Plus other crappy games i ran from diskette.

I learnt everything from this computer. Great computer, now its in the trash.

Started programming with QBASIC great fun, started around age 8 with it.

i went to compex 1991 or something like that .. a something like expo bla bla where companies show their latest products... when i saw amiga series computers there.. i was so impressed.. especially stuff above 500 .. like amiga 2000 and rest.. they were amazing..

i only know hercules in 2001 as a grahics board maker, because in those early years of my computing, i'm almost ignorant of the hardwares on the system. I've always judge it to the monitor.

I was going through my filing system oer the weekend, cleaning it out.

To my siprise i found the reciept for the purchace of my first system (with my own money).

It cost 4000 Australian dollars (3000 US back then) for a:
Pentium 166
gigabyte mobo
32mb edo
4mb diamond stealth 2d graphics card
2.16Gb seagate HDD (biggest available back then)
Soundblaster 16
8x CDROM
17" monitor (back then 15" wasnt even common).
THe monitor in particular cost a fortune.

such a kool system.

it WAS a beast for its time...
166mhz where most my friends were stuck with 486DX66 or 100's.
monster 2Gb HDD (or i could have waited 2 weeks for a 2.5Gb drive)
and the 4mb graphics with the 17" monitor was aweinspiring.
Drool material.

Had to jump in on this thread.... My first system was a Sinclair Z81, but one of the hand built ones ! Direct from Sir Clive's own stock.

At the time I was working for Psion Ltd, the developers of the Flight Simm mentioed in a prevois message. Great stuff.

my friend had a XT runing at 4.77 ... and with that green mono screen :) it was so much fun :) we didnt have problems like doom III or unreal 2003

btw ... the hercules card we used to use those years ... does it have anything to do with hercules now ???? the one that uses nvidia chips ??

I loved my good ol commadore '64. My very first memory is watchin my sister play text-based alice in wonderland on it (before i could read) Dose anybody remember Nando Net? man that rocked, I had the internet before any of the other kids with nine diffrent commands, 4 games, and 7 colors!

The Commodore64 had 16 colors DAMMIT 16!!

That was my first computer, screaming along at 1.2MHz, the fury of the 6510 unleashed. Spent many hours with my trusty C64 Progammer's Reference Guide (sys 64738).

Games? Load Runner, BoulderDash, Maniac Mansion, World Karate Championship, Space Harrier, Skyfox, Spy Hunter, Raid Over Moscow, but that's a whole nother thread. 😎 That's a long way from UT2K3.

First "Computer" = Commodore Vic20 1985. First PC = Celeron 333Mhz in 1995 (I think)
