My first system was a Tandy TRS-80 I got in 1979, with a tape drive, later replaced by an external floppy drive the size of a small briefcase.

My first was a Z80 cpu in a sinclare ZX81 computer with a massive 1KB (Yes that is K as in 1024 Bytes) of ram. You could load from tape, but most of the time you typed in the programs as needed.

My first computer was an Atari 400. I still remember that damm membrane keyboard.

The first computer I bought was an Atari 800 XL - 1983 (which I still have today with lots of games and a couple of controllers)

Bought my next computer in 1989 that was a Packard Bell 286-10MHz with the turbo option. I think it ran at 3.3 MHz in non turbo mode. It had 640k ram and a 10 meg HD. Monitor was a CGA color. It came with DOS 3.0 later upgraded to DOS 3.3. Printer was a Panasonic KXP-1124 24pin dot matrix computer.

I built my first computer in 1991 - An AMD 386-40 with 2 Megs of ram with a 40 meg HD. DOS 5.22 and windows 3.0. I think it had an EGA monitor and I remember a graphics card with 512k ram. I recently came across the reciept when I upgraded to 4 megs of RAM for a whopping $575. Still using the KXP1124 dot matrix computer.

Next computer was a AMD 486DX-40 don't remember much about this one other than it was so much faster than the 386. Upgraded the KXP1124 to a Packard Bell 300x300 DPI laser printer that I got on clearance for $999.99 so much faster than the 150 DPI dot matrix computer, and even quiet.

Next was a Intel 486DX2-66 with Paradise VLB graphics card. Upgraded the monitor to a VGA (non-interlaced) Viewsonic 15"

From here I was upgrading to new stuff every 6-9 months. That is when I knew I had the bug.

Today's system:

EVGA 780i mother board
2-EVGA 8800GT's with 512 megs of ram SLI (overclocked to Core clock - 702 Shader clock 1728 memory 1025)
CPU Q9450 - Overclocked to 3.608 Idle temp 28C and Load temp 39C
8-MEGS Patriot Viper PC8500 5-5-5-15-2T 4-31-6-10-7.8uS @2.1V PVS24G8500ELKR2
Thermalright ULTRA - 120 eXtreme lapped with a SCYTHE Slip Stream 120 KAZE-JYUNI 1900 RPM 110 CFM fan
Antec 900 case
Power & Cooling 860
3- Optiarc AD-7221S DVD Burners
1- LG HD DVD/Blu Ray ROM GGC-H20L
2- Seagate 7200.10 500 GIG HD's in RAID 0

Commodore 64:
CPU: 6510
RAM: 64k
HDD: None
GPU: MOS Technology VIC-II 6567/8567
Modem: None unless u bought it seperate
FDD: 166k

IBM PS/2
4MB non parity RAM upgraded to 12 mb! (8MB was worth $200CAD in 1995)
80286 SX 25 Mhz
wait...
WITH a MATH CO-PROCESSOR ($200CAD in 1995) which doubled it to 50 Mhz, and could finally play Doom 2 @ 100% screen resolution! No choppiness)

First computer I used:

Can't remember the manufacturer
Intel 66MHz 80486 DX2

First computer that I owned (rather than a family computer):
Dell XPS M1710, Core 2 Duo T7600G.

The first computer I ever owned was a 486DX model I think lol. I was in Junior High when I got it which was over twelve years ago so my memory isnt working to well. I remember playing the first Warcraft game on it, man I loved that game back in the day.

The first computer i actually owned was a atari 800, the first ibm compatible was a amd 286 clone based system i built, that played wing commander in style, and i never thought i would need another pc,lol. I also owned a apple clone(yes they did once have clones),but cant remember the brand.

1gb, come on dude, no onw does 1gb anymore, at least go 2gb, preferably 4gb

Ah ...Yes! A program language that I can understand and write. Bring back the good days with my Radio Shack TRS-80 3 or 4.

my first unit was a TRS80-1 with all the goodies spread all over the room. I could NOT function without my floppies. When I found a 20 Gig HD that worked on it, I was in HEAVEN !!

The CPU was a Z-80

Home computers: Atari 1200XL, replaced with a Commodore 128. I also picked up a Laser 128 Apple II clone to play all the Wizardry games a friend gave me when he replaced his Apple with a Mac (he wouldn't sell me his Apple, his Mom got that).

My first PC build was based on a barebones system I got from a Computer Shopper ad:

386SX-20
1 meg of RAM in 4 256k sticks
512K VGA card

Ordered a 14" VGA from the same company.

I ordered an Adlib sound card and a 40 meg Connor IDE drive from two other ads in Computer shopper, as their prices were better.

Back then, the CPU's were soldered on the motherboard, you replaced both at once. I hated LIF when it came out and was happy to see ZIF arrive.

I didn't notice it at first. I've probably posted on this way back.

Still, the memories. What does building PC's have in common with sex? You always remember your first time.

Laser 128, thats the clone, i had, cant believe i couldnt remember such a simple name
