Hey guys,

It's been a long time since I built my pc now, I'm looking to ideally replace part/s or worst case, build a new one.

Or, maybe some tips? I feel like my system is fairly capable, but it does seem be less capable than I thought.

PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/v8sPDj

This is my current setup:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X 3.8 GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard: MSI MPG X570 GAMING PRO CARBON WIFI ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory
Storage: Samsung 970 Evo 500 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Storage: Samsung 970 Evo 500 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Video Card: Asus STRIX GAMING OC GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB Video Card
Case: Phanteks Evolv X ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair TX650M Gold 650 W 80+ Gold

I mostly play thehunter: call of the wild, dota 2, Counterstrike 2, risk of rain 2 and the way of the hunter.
I also, usually have a YouTube video and other apps open on my second monitor.
Often, I'll be playing a main-game and playing osrs on the side, or I'll be using Adobe lightroom while watching videos.

I had to modify my graphics card to play theHunter: COTW as it kept overheating and crashing the game. So, I stripped it down to the radiator and added 3x noctua fans instead.

On cs2 my fps is averaging around 120, but sometimes lower, especially on the valve deathmatch servers.

I'd really like to play thehunter: cotw on higher settings and without my pc sounding like it's going to take-off!

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Fabian

If you want to stay with what you have now.

Bios update
5700x3d
9070xt
upgrade PSU

If you live next to or close to a microcenter you could pick up one of their 7700x, 7600x3d, or 7800x3d bundles. Throw in the 9070xt and a PSU and you would have yourself a new build.

Thank you so much, I'll look into the microcentre. Otherwise, 5700x3d sounds ideal to start with!

My stock approach to this perennial question:

Some games are graphics limited like fast action shooters.
Others are cpu core speed limited like strategy, sims, and mmo.
Multiplayer tends to like many threads.

You need to find out which.
------------------------------------------------------------
To help clarify your CPU/GPU options, run these two tests:

a) Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
This makes the graphics card loaf a bit.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

b) Limit your cpu, either by reducing the OC, or, in windows power management, limit the maximum cpu% to something like 70%.
Go to control panel/power options/change plan settings/change advanced power settings/processor power management/maximum processor state/
This will simulate what a lack of cpu power will do.
Conversely what a 30% improvement in core speed might do.

This should be a sticky, very good way to determine what would improve the stuff you actually DO instead of just the numbers in a benchmark.

That said, the advice to upgrade the cpu and gpu on this machine to a 5700x3d and a 9070xt or something similar seems pretty solid for the kind of things the OP does with his/her machine.

Can’t really go wrong by doing that because you get more and faster cores and x3d cache and a gpu that’s a lot faster. Safe to say that’ll improve performance all around.

Great tips, thank you! I'll remember this!

I've decided to try the 5700x3d for now, seems to be making a huge amount of difference!

you made the right choice .
your graphics card is still very good especially for CS2 (it has rtx 5060 level of performance)
you were getting so low FPS because cs2 and cs:go prior to that is very sensitive on CPU power
and strong single core performance , 3600(x) is just not cutting it for this game on the competitive level .
X3D processors will keep your 1% and 0,1% lows at high levels .
