I'm currently going to to upgrading my PC's CPU from a core i5 4460 to a core i7 4790K, and before I get the new cpu and install it i need to know what things will I need to do after my CPU is on the motherboard, and Will i need to reinstall windows 10 again.

Solution
hardware wise, you will need to reapply new heat sink thermal paste , so you will need to clean your heatsink when you get it off your older cpu.
Not sure you will need to change anything in windows, it will see new cpu, if you have a registered account (like with an email account in outlook) it should be fine, system will find different cpu and apply changes if needed.

I did an upgrade from 4690 to 4790K and I did not have to reinstall windows 10.

My motherboard is an Gigabyte
GA-B85-HD3 so, Im not sure how well it would work with a GTX 1060 O6C 6GB and a core i7 4790k.
Would an upgrade be needed for the motherboard ?

what Bios version of the GA-B85-HD3 do you have ?

Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3(rev. 1.0)
Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3(rev. 1.x)
Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3(rev. 2.0)
Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3(rev. 2.1)
Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3(rev. 2.2)

To upgrade to an I7-4xxx CPu you will need Bios 2.2 installed before you change cpu.

The motherboard itself can support the 4790K CPU. I think, if I was you since it is B85 board and not a Z87/97 board, and since the B85 Board will not be able to utilise the maximum potential of the cpu (aside overclocking it) I would suggest get the Non-K cpu i7-4770 or I7-4790 instead.

Thanks Paladin, I am more than happy enough to get a new motherboard but I need suggestions for one that can handle my K processor and graphics card
