Hello everyone.

i currently updated my built listed as

6700k 4,6ghz+cryorig A80
gigabyte z170x gaming 7
32gb tridentz ddr4 3200mhz+corsair dominator air flow ram cooler
corsair ax860i
and a evga 1080 ftw.

i was gaming at 4k,Asus PB287Q using 2 r9 290 in cf and i cant say i wasnt happy with it.

after looking for a new monitor (started with a 1440p with more than 60hz) i ended up falling in love with the ultra wide monitors! More preccisely i already ordered an lg 34uc88-b .
its a 34 inch curved ips monitor with a resolution of 3440x1440 21:9 aspect ratio.

after searching about 4k vs ultra wide gaming i am so confused!!!

ultra wide curved is better for most gamed but not for FPS.
i play bf4,cs go,preordered bf1 but i also play the witcher 3 ,forza horizon 3 ,need for speed. what i mean is that i play all kind of games, fps racing mmo ,mobas etc.

so the question is recieve the 34" curved and sell my 4k or keep my 4k and add another 1080 for sli so i can play at 4k with 60+fps.

i belive a 1080 ftw can esilly deliver 60fps at 3440x1440 but i t will struggle at 4k.

so ultrawide vs sli.

plz let me know the monitor will arrive tomorrow!

I cannot comment on Sli but I do have a curved Acer Predator X34 21:9 and run it off an i54670 and a GTX980ti. I have so far thoroughly enjoyed Witcher 3 and both add-ons, Rise of the Tomb Raider and currently Deus-Ex Mankind Divided, all at 3440 x 1440.

Biggest issue is the tweaking that may or may not be required for a particular game to play in 21:9. Witcher 3 required a little tweaking but Tomb Raider and Deus-Ex did not. Some pre-rendered cut scenes may be in 16:9 but I don't find that to be unduly intrusive - indeed the return to full 3440 x 1440 after a short cut-scene reminds me how impressive the 21:9 is.

There are Forums that can guide one on the tweaking and to what extent it may be required - WSGF for example, and Widescreen Fix.

I only tend to play one game at a time and stroll through it, seeking out every nook and cranny, so as long as there is always one good game available on the 21:9 I am content.

Not sure if this helps you or not. Good luck.

ETA- Think I just altered the FOV in Deus -Ex to 105 or so.

If I am not mistaken you have one of the best curved ultra wide panels available on the market today, is the one with the g-sync isn't it?

Do you max out the games previously listed at that res with 980ti? Trying to figure out what should I expect from a 1080 at 3440x1440.

Yes. I bought mine in February/March and my system runs best on 95hz. I accept what my system sets a game at and don't get involved with following fps. Can't say I've been aware of any unusual ups or downs in screen activity although I think I turned Tomb Raider down to 80hz. Still a great experience, and you seem to have a more powerful system than mine.

I literally have no idea what to do right now.
I can't decide which of the 2 options is better. I have read every thread on the web about 21:9 vs 4k plus any video regarding gtx 1080 sli.

Tough, I know. Space precludes me trying sli, which set-up can have its own issues, but I really enjoy the curved 34" and to view the whole screen from side to side I do have head movement giving (me at least) a pleasing sense of immersion/involvement. The scenery in Witcher 3 was incredible (particularly in the later territories)- spent ages just riding my horse and admiring the views and the landscape and the sunsets and...

That's just my thoughts on the 34"- others may feel different and I wish you luck in choosing. I'm sure you will pleased with whatever you decide is best for you. Good luck. I'm a septuaganarian by the way, if that makes any difference :wahoo:

Well you are a septuaganarian and you play pc games at a x34 acer predator with a gtx 980ti. well that made my day 😀

Guess i will pick up the monitor arriving tomorrow or friday and run a couple of games. then i dont know. probably return it?
its not right to return it opened and used because i changed my mind in the last minute. it wouldnt be nice if something like that was happened to me so i dont like to do it either. Thanks a lot for your help

Good luck. And Happy birthday tomorrow.

Not sure if it's a present or not, but if you purchased a monitor from, say, Amazon UK, it's perfectly normal to return it if it's not wholly what you expected because by buying through the net you didn't have the opportunity to inspect it first hand. The law allows for that.

Before I kept the Acer, I returned a Samsung. No issues at all- just changed my mind. Unpack carefully and follow the guidelines for returning- you have 30 days at Amazon, I think.
