I'm looking in buying a gpu but I don't know which to go with the rx480 8 gb or the gtx 1060 6g after reading several benchmarks some say the 1060 is better need your guys opinion oh and one more thing when buying a gpu do brands make a difference and if so which should I go with

Solution
GTX 1060:

- Better Overclocker
- Slightly Better DX11 and Typical Performance
- Better Power Efficiency
- Better Cooling

RX 480:

- Slightly Cheaper
- More VRAM
- Slightly Better Vulkan + (Mostly DX12) Performance
- Improving performance over time

Overall they are very similar you won't get much difference in performance out of them. Any Nvidia/DX11 titles the 1060 will come slightly ahead and in any AMD/Vulkan titles the RX 480 will come slightly ahead with DX12 being an inconsistent middle ground between the 2 (480 usually winning by a fraction). I would personally go the RX 480 for the extra VRAM, CrossFire Suppport, better continued driver support over time and usually cheaper at the same time). So if you plan on keeping this...

So if you plan on keeping this longer than 2 years i would very strongly suggest the RX 480. If not, the 1060 6GB usually wins at the current time. But overall you won't get much of a difference between the 2 cards so get what appeals to you. 😀

Take this for example, GTX 1060 vs RX 480 at launch (July 2016) vs 6 months later (December 2016) watch the RX 480 creep closer in DX11 and get a bigger lead in Vulkan. > http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/73945-gtx-1060-vs-rx-480-updated-review-23.html

also depends upon your monitor.. if you already have a freesync monitor it makes sense to go with the rx 480 or if you are planning on spending less than $200/£200 on a new monitor then it makes sense to go with the rx 480. it can get quite expensive to go for a 1060 and a g-sync monitor. but if you already own a g-sync monitor then nvidia is the only way to go.
