Whats better quad core or i7?

Hi,

Does anyone know if an Intel i7 CPU is better than an Intel Quad Core?
I'm looking at a speed around 3.20GHz.

The Intel i7 is a quadcore which is newer and faster than the Intel Core 2 Quad Qxxxx.

Note: the i7 980X is an hexacore. The rest are quadcore.
