Question What's causing random restarts on my laptop ?

Hello everyone,
I bought a new HP Pavillion Gaming laptop in January 2021. Since I got it, I've been having issues with it randomly freezing or restarting.

It's not an over heating issue, as the laptop will be ice cold and just booted up and the screen will scramble, and the whole system freezes. Other times, I can use it for hours before it does the same thing.

I think it's a hardware issue, because that's literally the only thing I haven't been trying fixes for. Anyone else have this issue? What can I do about it?

As it's almost new it will be covered by the manufacturer's warranty so that's the best way to proceed in my opinion--- that's what warranties are for.

Trying to fix it yourself if it is a hardware issue may invalidate the warranty.

And I will add the suggestion to look in Reliability History and Event Viewer for any error codes, warnings, or informational events that correspond with the times that the laptop froze.

May identify some potential culprits....

Start with Reliability History. Much more user friendly and the timeline format can be very revealing.

However, if hardware is involved then get the the laptop fixed (per @Phillip Corcoran ) via warranty.

Side note: do you have your data backed up?
