The temperature of the ASIC controller is too hot. It reaches up to 97 °C during normal workloads like browsing. I can feel the heat on the keyboard while typing.
If I run games, within 10 minutes, the laptop crashes. I get the blue screen of death.

Some history:
  1. The laptop is 7 years old. (Asus ROG STRIX GL503GE)
  2. 3 years ago, something got loose inside the laptop, and it short-circuited the motherboard. Got it fixed.
  3. 8 months ago, while transferring data to an external hard disk, the laptop crashed (BSOD). Whenever I put even a slight load, it used to crash. Gradually, it started to crash more frequently. 3 months ago mustered the courage to open the laptop and clean the fans, fixed the issue.
  4. 2 weeks ago, I launched a game (Mass Effect 3 LE) for the first time in 3 years. 10 minutes in, the Laptop crashed (BSOD). Whenever I am launching a game or putting it under heavy load, it is crashing again within 10 minutes (Same error code I used to get before cleaning the fan).
  5. The trackpad stopped working around the same time (2 weeks ago). The trackpad ribbon cable attaches to the motherboard near the SSD.
  6. Drivers are up to date as far as I can tell.
  7. Drive Remaining Life for SSD in HWiNFO is 80%.
The internal SSD is too hot, can't touch it for more than a couple of seconds. Temp on HWiNFO is around 99°C max, 81°C avg. (under normal loads)

What is causing the SSD to overheat?
How to remedy the situation?
Should I replace the SSD?

When was the last time you cleaned the dust bunnies out? Seven years it maybe has become a dust magnet.

3 months ago. Opened the laptop and cleaned everything.
After removing gunk from inside the fans, the air flow now appears to be normal. Earlier I was not able to feel any air coming out from the vents.
