hey guys so my dad doesnt wanna buy a GPU online... so im planning on going to best buy and staples etc... most of them dont sell a 750ti whats a good GPU similar to it i can buy?
r9 270 is not too far off the same price range but out performs the gtx750ti by quite a lot ..... but it uses more power than the gtx750ti so would all depend on what your current build is.....
this is a link to compare the specs ..http://www.hwcompare.com/17282/geforce-gtx-750-ti-vs-radeon-r9-270/
yeah i agree, you will have to stay away from the r-series and hd-series, your psu is too small. a gtx650 is a very similar wattage to a gtx750ti, with the gtx650 been around 65w and the gtx750ti been around 60w roughly.
the performance difference isnt too much either.
Not sure how your local Staples is, but mine is horrible for selection, all they want to sell anymore besides pens/paper is tablets and AIOs. I was looking for a cheap tester card myself there recently and all they had was an old overpriced Radeon HD 5450 or something along those lines. BestBuy should have many more choices. Are you looking only at Nvidia, or is AMD an option?? A Radeon R7 260X is a little slower and may be available at your local BB. An Nvidia GTX 660 would be close to a 750ti in performance, and also GTX 650 Ti. Also what PC is this going to fit into?? Dual-Slot/Single Slot? Do you have the PSU power cables to attach to a card, or does it have to draw it's power only from the PCI-E slot. Some more info on what your tower is and what can fit would be more helpful too.
For checking the Amperage, there should be a sticker on the PSU, about the wattage on different Volt lines, if you can tell from that, or post a snap of that, it'll be helpful.

Without any available 6-pin power connector on your 300W PSU, the 750 or 750Ti is probably the only choice that would give you, but it's still a dual-slot card, though i believe someone has announced a single slot version(Galaxy I believe). What other specs does your computer have? If it only has a single 4-pin molex available, are you sure your motherboard has a free PCI-E slot to begin with? Dual slot room??
R7 260x or r7 260 is about the same as the 750ti. the next step up is the r7 265. All 3 are great entry level low to medium graphics quality cards. Most games require at least 2 GB of mem bandwith to play.
I just recently upgraded from my old HD 5870 to a gtx 760, but now I want a 970 lol. Such is the curse of PC gaming, always thirsty.
But yea if you have 170 dollars to spend, I would not buy anything less than a r9 270x or a gtx 66ti
a 750ti is really just good for minecraft and farmville. But hey if that's your thing.
I would recommend doing a little homework on a power supply. It's an often overlooked component in a computer build/upgrade. Granted I doubt whichever card your looking to buy will be drawing that much current, but often the cheaper power supplies that aren't namebrands you'd recognize from here can overrate their actual power delivery. Even though the links you provided show some glowing reviews, I would look for other reviews from sites other than Bestbuys to help in your decision.
