Just wanted some opinions on which is the best CPU to overclock for my money, is it the 2.4C(800), 2.6C(800) or 2.8C(800) and what speed of RAM should I get to achive the overclocking.

Thanks so much

GJ.

The 2.4c is probly the best one for overcloking. Dependin on what FSB you want to reach, youll have to choose your ram accordingly. You need at least PC 3500 and maybe 3700/4000 if your shotting for higher fsb/cpu clock

if it's not much, I'd say go with 2.6, although I'm not sure what the $$ dif. is right now, and I'm too lazy to check pricewatch... but I'd say one of those two, then pick your mem. accordingly, but get one of the packaged sets form a good company, corsair, ocz, they're tested together and preform great
I gave in and checked 2.6 is 209 at googlegear, (best price w/3year warenty) 2.8 254, and 2.4 is 169, I'd say 2.6 is best deal
but if you wait until prices drop you could go higher or put the $$ to better ram or vid card

From the overclockers standpoint probably the 2.6C. You see, all three will likely go to 3.2GHz on stock cooling at reasonable voltage, but the 2.4 would require 266MHz bus, the 2.6 250MHz bus, and the 2.8...a lot more money.

There is already overclockers memory that supports 250MHz bus, called PC4000. And even without that, a 250MHz bus will run PC3200 at stock speed using the 5:4 CPU:RAM ratio.

So the 2.6C is a good choice for normal overclocking because the higher multiplier allows high clocks at lower bus speeds. The 2.4C is cheaper and could be considered a better value, but getting it to as high a speed would require comprimises. And the 2.8C is expensive.

Now as to which one is the best value at stock speed, do the calculations!

The $ difference between the 2.4C and 2.6C is about $40, so I'd say get the 2.4C cause the 200MHz difference is not that noticable. Plus you can OC the 2.4 well beyond 3.0GHz.

Corsair XMS 512MB TwinX3200C2 2-3-3-6
GeForce4 Ti4200 AGP8X 128MB
Seagate Barracuda 80GB SATA

I think I'll just wait for the next speed to come out, so I can get the 2.6 cheaper as it moves downscale.

WOOOHOOO, lol
I would go witht the 2.6GHz.
Oh wait I already did lol :)
I would highly reccomend it I have gotten it up to 3.25GHz
1000MHz FSB, I can get a little higher before my memory craps out on me but all I have is pc 2700 (corsair XMS).
I think if you went with 3500 3700 or 4000 you could really get up there. Im using stock cooling and my cpu temp is 43C with load and its also at normal stock voltages (memory too).
I have tried to inch a few more mhz out of this memory but I cant get it beyond 417mhz. I have it set for 2.5 cas latency. maybe if I go 3 and up the voltage I can get it to 450mhz lol.
Cya hope this info helped

I had good luck with my 2.4c. If I were intel I would name my new chipset "Green Jizz". That way if it's a block heater as some say. People will stay at least 50 feet awy from it at all times.

That was a joke by the way. You had to be there.
