Hi,

I have this ancient technology that I want to upgrade for my little sister. I've been researching a little bit, but I just can't find what CPU is the absolute best for the motherboard (money is not an issue, but I guess it won't be that expensive since it's old).

Motherboard is Gigabyte GA-M61SME-S2.

I also would like to know what 800mhz rarm would work best, and on top of that, I also would like to know what video card would be the best I can buy for this motherboard.

Thank you very much for your help.

No, those are all older slow CPUs. I said Phenom II X4 or X6. They start down in the 2nd grouping.
The memory is spelled out in the specifications page.
Supports dual channel DDR2 800/667/533/400

You might do better price-wise finding some used on ebay.

If you go with the 1st generation Phenom X4 9850, it may be better than you have now. But I don't know what you have now.
Finding those faster 2nd generation Phenom IIs someplace like ebay might result in one that comes DOA. So always choose a seller with lots of sales, high ratings, and offers returns.

You've probably already looked at the CPU support list for that board: http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=2507
If your board is indeed the ver 2.x, the fastest CPUs are the Phenom II X4 and X6. Pretty much in the order they are listed in from top (best) to bottom (worst). Since all those CPUs are long obsolete, you will have to find one on places like ebay or Amazon 3rd party.
I think I would update the board's BIOS to the latest just to be on the safe side, however.

Any DDR2 800MHz memory you can find at a good price will be fine. No sense getting fancy with something that old and slow.

The board should support any card that fits the PCIe x16 slot. Since the card will be running at only PCIe X16 ver 1.0, no sense going overboard on that either. If you have a good quality 300W PSU or better, grab a GTX 750 Ti. But let's see what you end up with a CPU first...

I had looked at the support list, and honestly, I don't know (or understand) which one would be the best, but according to what you say... The Athlon 64 FX-62 would be my best choice?

I'm sorry to look like such an idiot, but despite having build a couple computers, I still don't comprehend a few things. For example, will my motherboard support a 125W CPU?

Thanks for your help. Really, thanks.
