What's the difference between brands of SSD?

Hi,

Just wondering what sets apart some SSDs from others in terms of different brands and models? I know the Samsung 860 Evo is meant to be the best, but I don't know why?

Also, what's the difference, for example, between the WD Blue and Green offerings?

Finally - is there any difference between the brands such as Samsung and WD and smaller ones like Kingston, or even Transcend?

mostly 3 things:
MLC -> faster but less space for the price, more durable
TLC -> more space less durability, cheaper
second:
generation: usual newer -> better
third:
speeds: again more better.
if you want fast OS drive look at best 4k performance.
else best sequential peformance.

wd green vs blue was almost just size difference. (and usually bigger is a bit faster)

Same difference as anything else, (Ford vs chewy vs. Chrysler) except chips in different makes and models are actually made by small number of producers and there's a mix of parts in all SSD makes. All you can do i sto compare just similar models of different manufacturers.
Any more and you'd have to have comprehensive knowledge of chip and controller architecture.

The thing you as an user would worry, Read and Write speeds, also Warranty. Other stuff, components from which they are made, some are guaranteed better longevity etc. If I were you Id go for Samsung or WD, sure it is going with the herd, but they are worth the price.
