Well it's only $20 cheaper than Amazon when you factor in tax. Where I live, in CA, tax is 8.25%. Plus I live about 40 miles away so that's like $8 for gas round trip. Add in the opportunity cost of spending time in traffic... is it really worth it? Might be for you. Everything's relative.

All i7 chips are Nahalem. Nahalem was Intel's internal name for what are now the i7 chips.

The most annoying thing about living in California is having to pay tax on all computer parts ordered online. Every online retailer is based here! Amazon is one of the few places I know of that doesn't tax CA. I'm almost tempted to ship newegg orders to my parents' house in Minnesota.


Edit: Amazon just raised the price of the i7 920 back up to $288. Bastards!

Looking at Microcenter's other prices, they are mostly a bit more than NewEgg and have a smaller selection. Thus, I suspect that the i7-920 is a loss leader intended to get people into the store where they will spend more than they save.

when I picked my 920 up at microcenter, the sales guy said it was a new policy that you had to purchase something else with it. I'm pretty sure he was BS but I humored him and bought my P6T (non deluxe motherboard). It was the same price as on newegg + tax - the shipping. I returned in 3 weeks later and ordered the deluxe V2.

It's like some kind of cycle, 3 or 4 days ago the price on amazon was 269$, and now it's 288$ again. I also noticed that newegg and amazon copy each other's prices. Yesterday the price went up on newegg, today on amazon. Just when I wanted to buy one. I'll wait a few days for the price to go down again.
