Question What's the fastest Nvidia videocard my PC can handle?

Without me upgrading anything else, what is the fastest videocard my current PC can handle? I'm doing 1440p 144hz gaming with a 2070 super

I want to stick with an Nvidia card

the only limit is what your psu can provide power to. you can power pretty much anything you wish up to a 4080 level card if you wish to spend that much.

i'd not try a 4090 just due to the high power draw getting to close to the limits of your psu.

At 1440p most of the work is on the GPU. Some games tax the CPU more but no GPU will change that.

There is no magical CPU/GPU combo that perfectly balances the workload. Every game/software is different in how it uses resources. Get what you want and adjust the settings to whatever it can handle. With a 4080 that'll be max settings, then sit back and enjoy the game

Your AM4 platform can support a Ryzen 5000 series CPU, which can handle an RTX 4080 fairly well at 1440p. So, there should be no worry about wasted money on a faster GPU, when you can plan to also upgrade the CPU.

As above, the limiter is the psu.
There is no such thing as "bottlenecking"
If, by that, you mean that upgrading a cpu or graphics card can
somehow lower your performance or FPS.
A better term might be limiting factor.
That is where adding more cpu or gpu becomes increasingly
less effective.

Try this simple test:
Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
This makes the graphics card loaf a bit.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.
