What's the performance gain from a gtx 970 over a gtx 680 4gb?

I want a gtx 980 ti but it's to expensive, gtx 980 is not good value,bang for the buck and is also expensive, gtx 970 is good value and performance for the money.

I have an asus gtx 680 dcu 2 4gb and 3x1920x1080 i play on (have 4 mnitors) so after i have watch some youtube videos and alot of threads i would like to know how much a gtx 970 performs better then the gtx 680 dcu2 4gb i have (gpu 1100mhz ram 1748mhz can't get it higher), i would definitely oc it, lets say 1300-1400 mhz (i know gigabytes g1 gaming are a very good oc card and the g1 gaming can easily reach 1500mhz)

Had a gigabyte gtx 770 4gb (played at that time on a 2560x1080 monitor and it could go as high as i remember 1200mhz on the gpu, a bit noisy), then a gtx 780 because i wanted more gpu power, in 5760x1080 i could play dirt 3 with all setting at max even aa (msi gaming, it had a bit coilwhine) can't have all settings at max and 60 fps with my gtx 680 dcu2 4gb.

Then i wanted to have 4 gb(have 3 monitors i play on) and traded my gtx 780 3gb for 2x asus gtx 680 4gb later sold one to get a define r5, also thought noise was to high doing games, both cards had fans on 100% when gaming, now i don't have fans higher then 61% even 70-80% is not that loud.

It's difficult to compare those 2 cards since i don't play all the same games they use in the reviews of the gtx 970 and not all review gtx 970 in 5760x1080

What's the performance gain from a gtx 970 over a slightly oc'ed gtx 680 4gb?

If i buy a gtx 970 it would be a asus strix, a gigabyte gtx 970 g1 gaming is also tempting to buy since it's a great oc card, but fans are loud

There isn't that much of a gain to be honest. The difference between card tiers is a little under double that of between generations.

Their not a big gain 15/18 % not enough to justify the buying of a 970 if you already have the 680.

The last is 33% more pixels than 5760 x 1080

The Strix and the EVGA SSC are the weaker cards. The older 970 SC had a defect which the SSC corrected but the other weaknesses described in the link below still exist. You can read this article to understand these physical / component differences (chokes, caps, thermal pads, VRM phases) which explain why the the Asus and EVGA models rarely break 1500 in reviews where as the MSI and Gigabyte just about always do.

Three things about the Gigabyte that you should also check out.

1. On newegg, negative (1egg) reviews were running about 23% on the G1, under 10% for everyone else.

2. The G1 card is very long, make sure you can fit it's 12.28" length in your case.

3. Haven't confirmed this on the 970 but the Gigabyte G1 980 can draws 342 watts....that's 135 watts more than the next closest (MSI) at 207.

Have seen people write about a big difference between a gtx 680 and a gtx 970, others say the difference is not that big

A gtx 970 might in som cases be as fast as a stock gtx 780 ti, i am not going for a ultra gamig in 5760x1080 with new games, i am pretty shure i can play games like dirt 3, showdown,boarderlands the presequel at max setting and have 60fps which is fine. The difference between a gtx 970 and gtx 980 might not be enought to justify the price difference, difference in performance between a gtx 680 and gtx 970 might be as big as a gtx 970 and gtx 980 ti or am i wrong?

I only play real games (games that isn''t on facebook) in 5760x1080, like the amd r9 290/290x that could make a difference compared to lower resolution

ONLY real games i play is in 5760x1080, so that resolution and fps is very important, games that i play on facebook isn't important since i don't play them in full hd nor do i play them in full screen so every gpu should be able to handle those games, even my igpu would be enough.

I don't say anything about techpowerup review gpu's with facebook games, i just always play on my 3 monitor when i am not playing facebook games


Of course a gtx 680 and gtx 970 can play games in 1080p or 1440p but it's the difference in 5760x1080 that's important, techpowerup dosn't review a asus gtx 680 in 5760x1080 only a gtx 970 (asus) they test/review in 5760x1080 (i don't play all the games they use for at gtx 970)and that is the resolution and difference between a gtx 680 and gtx 970 that i am interested in knowing who big the difference is in fps to get an idea if i should buy a gtx 970

I am also limited to 1100mhz on the gpu and 1748 mhz on the ram so if a new gtx 970 can be oc'ed more compared to stock speed the i can with my gtx 980 the differebnce woul be even bigger can only oc mine about 10% if a gtx 970 can oc mabye 15-20% theres even more reason to upgrade

Look at grid autosport For GRID Autosport, the GTX 980's blue bar can consistently be found at the top of the charts. The difference between the GTX 970 and 770 is enormous

My gtx 680 is as fast as a gtx 770 or just a few fps faster

I still don't understand the problem, the links given show you the game performance at resolutions above and below 5760 x 1080. It is important to note that 5760 is getting less relevant so review sites are not testing games so much any more so what I suggested was

Those are the differences at the various resolutions as available w/ current games. When a web site doesn't publish 5760 results that doesn't mean the information is useless.

1. We saw a 45 % increase at 1440p (3,686,400 pixels)
2. We saw a 48 % increase at 2160p (8,294,400 pixels)
3. You are looking for what increase would be at 5760 x 1080, right ? (6,220,800 pixels)

It would seem fairly simple to conclude that the performance increase at 5760, which is in the middle between 45 % and 48% would be somewhere between 45 and 48% .... let's say 46.5% at 5760 x 1080.
