im gonna buy an optical drive for $16. I also found a bunch more that were a lot more expensive, some $50. What is the point of an expensive one. I do plan and buying more physical copies though as i prefer to see my collection. Will a cheap optcal drive have any affect on the discs or preformance of disc games. Im not sure as i am new to this pc gaming stuff.

I haven't had one for 3 years or so, I never use them. Not even for installing windows.

Can you? Sure.
But for me, the extra $15 or $20 is not an impediment. And needing one and having one is better than needing one and not having one.

Ofcourse. But it's really not needed, at all. Everything can be downloaded LEGALLY, given you own it.

For instance...I just burnt a Macrium Reflect boot DVD, to reconstruct the drive from a backup image in case things get corrupted or my SDD or HDD dies.
This DVD gets stored away in my box of stuff. If needed, boot from that and recover the applicable drive image.

Could I have made a bootable USB for that? Sure. But burning and storing a 10 cent DVD beats burning and storing a $5 USB stick any day.

Yeah, you're right. But if the question is to either buy an optical drive for 16 bucks, or buy 3x usb pens, I would suggest buying the usb pens.

Ah, but I use both...:)

Once you've filled those USB drives you're out of space. A few dollars and you've got 50 more DVDs with 5GB storage space on each. And so on. It's a no-brainer.
