Well, I just tried to buy a few hunderdred dollars worth of RAM from Crucial this week. I've made several orders over a few years that have had no problems whatsoever, but now it seems they don't want to sell stuff...
First, they won't send product to my (previously used) street address without bank verification.
So I say, ok, just send it to my P.O. Box billing address.
They then say they won't send anything to a P.O. Box.
So given that my bank has my address as P.O. Box as well, I say, ok, just check against my previous orders and that will confirm things for you.
And they say, yes, but we still won't send anything without the credit card company (bank) verifying the address. Which is amusing because all the bank tells them is what I tell the bank. At this point I'm not interested in jumping through hoops that no other company has had a problem with (car parts suppliers, computer parts suppliers, electronics suppliers, aircraft parts suppliers, etc) and I'm obviously talking to someone who's got policy-rage and isn't real interested in selling me anything, so I cancelled the order then bought it all (different brand, non-Crucial/Micron) from a local importer at a higher price.
Anyway, what I'm wondering is, is this related to them recently appointing a New Zealand "agent" (eg, adding a crazy markup for handing it over the counter) and not wanting to deal with overseas orders directly, or have they recently outsourced their sales and support?
They used to be great to deal with, so what's going on? Did I just get the "new guy" who's being anal about policy and proceedure, or have others (probably outside the US) had trouble as well?
poorboy.
