What's up with Crucial?

Well, I just tried to buy a few hunderdred dollars worth of RAM from Crucial this week. I've made several orders over a few years that have had no problems whatsoever, but now it seems they don't want to sell stuff...

First, they won't send product to my (previously used) street address without bank verification.
So I say, ok, just send it to my P.O. Box billing address.
They then say they won't send anything to a P.O. Box.
So given that my bank has my address as P.O. Box as well, I say, ok, just check against my previous orders and that will confirm things for you.
And they say, yes, but we still won't send anything without the credit card company (bank) verifying the address. Which is amusing because all the bank tells them is what I tell the bank. At this point I'm not interested in jumping through hoops that no other company has had a problem with (car parts suppliers, computer parts suppliers, electronics suppliers, aircraft parts suppliers, etc) and I'm obviously talking to someone who's got policy-rage and isn't real interested in selling me anything, so I cancelled the order then bought it all (different brand, non-Crucial/Micron) from a local importer at a higher price.

Anyway, what I'm wondering is, is this related to them recently appointing a New Zealand "agent" (eg, adding a crazy markup for handing it over the counter) and not wanting to deal with overseas orders directly, or have they recently outsourced their sales and support?

They used to be great to deal with, so what's going on? Did I just get the "new guy" who's being anal about policy and proceedure, or have others (probably outside the US) had trouble as well?

Since they ship using UPS or Fedex (I don't remember) they can not use PO Boxes. PO Box is for USPS use only. Since the other delivery companies are not government agencies, they will not be able to deliver to that address. Perhaps you should place your physical address on file with your credit card company.

I understand that these types of security checks are a P.I.T.A. but they are there for our protection.

You say you went with a different brand and a higher price... Crucial is really good stuff hope your substitute product offers the same quality.

Nice troll. I guess you didn't read up on their international shipping, and quite why you're drilling USPS I don't know. At any rate, USPS global express is a far cheaper international shipping option at almost the same speed, and I'd recommend them for other non-Usians buying stuff from the 'states.

Firstly, like I said *every other company* I've dealt with has had no problem with sending to my street address (including Crucial several times in the past).

Secondly, it's got nothing to do with *our* protection. It's about reducing the number of charge-backs that Crucial has to swallow in the event of fraudulent purchases.

And yes, KingMax seems to work just fine.

I wasn't really trying to get in a flame war with you. I was just offering an explanation since you were posting the question.

Since you apparently know everything and have shopped at *every other company* I will leave you to wallow in your own *intelligence*

Fair enough, but you came off sounding like a Crucial shill. It was more of a moan than a question anyway. I was mostly wondering if others had any problems recently or not. Nice use of emphasis, BTW. Hopefully one day I will be as *intelligent* as you.
