Hey guys,
I'm gonna buy an Asus GTX 960 Strix 2GB. But I recently read on google that the people over at Nvidia are gonna phase out the 2GB variant of GTX 960 ?? 🙁 Does that mean they won't support the people who have already bought the 2 GB variant or what?
Please help !!

Solution
No, as far as drivers are concerned, it won't matter what version of the gtx 960 you have. I think the problem is with the GTX 950 performing close to the 960 at a much cheaper price. Although I doubt a 4GB variant will help the 960 really. They would need to make like a gtx 960 ti version. Either way the current 960 will see all the driver updates the rest of the 9xx series get.

So i won't have any problem if i buy the 2GB variant right ??
BTW I'm buying it this Saturday.
P.S.- As I am buying the card this Saturday, the news scared the shit outta me.

Decent performer at 1080p. For a mid range card it is not actually that bad despite many would think that 128bit somehow holding the card performance. (already done my research on that). Just that it would look bad in comparison to AMD pricing that often have to give discount so they can sell their card.

So there won't be any problems in future years if I buy a 2GB variant, right ?

actually 2GB is about right for the card. though because of current gen console some games VRAM requirement has increased massively. hence board partner come up with those 4GB board for those actually want more than 2GB VRAM. but for those games that tend to use more VRAM they actually will require more powerful gpu to run those setting. but if you can get that 4GB variant for more or less the same with 2GB variant then just get that 4GB one. in the end having more never hurts. some said the 4GB only wasting money but depending on where you buy the card the cost increase going from 2GB to 4GB sometimes very minimal making the 4GB become more attractive option despite in most of the time that massive amount of VRAM might not the one that affecting gpu performance. but yeah on the high end sometimes double the VRAM might not worth the money. still remember that those 8GB 290s have massive price increase compared to 4GB models.

I might buy a 4GB variant but the problem is that i live in india. Here all the GPUs are priced upto 30% more than rest of the world. So a GTX 960 2GB costs me INR 16000 (USD 245). And a 4GB variant would cost me INR 18500 (USD 280). So that's a massive difference.

so far the only game that really crazy about VRAM usage is AC Unity. even on the lowest preset with low res the game will try to use more than 2GB. other games you can still tweak around so if your choice are limited to 960 2GB then you will have to play around with the game setting for a bit. though i believe it will be fine in most games.

No worries. I myself do not like Assassin's creed franchise. I only play FPS games and those GTAs. I am sure this card is able to play those FPS games pretty smooth
