It's going to be tough to hit 30 fps with that 8400 GS. If you can upgrade to an 8800GT (I think they're going for about $20 on ebay, BUT you'll need a PSU that can handle it) you'll be able to run a lot more games. I believe Dragon Age Inquisition's minimum spec is for an 8800GT.

Like Gman450 was saying Source games will run well - it seems like CS:GO will run on anything. The previously mentioned "Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines" should also run. It might help if you mention what kind of games you're looking for - shooters, RPG, strategy (real-time or turn-based), etc.

Maple Story. It's been my favourite since I was young and I used to always talk about it. There always comes a time where I get bored and quit. Whenever I quit the game, though, I always end come back in a year or two. It's one of the games where you can't quit completely.

most of the good platformers should run okay: Outland, The Cave, Limbo, Ori, Apotheon, Child of Light, Superbrothers Sword & Sorcery, A Valley Without Wind I & II, Waking Mars.
and try Diablo I & II, Baldur's Gate I & II, Divine Divinity, Fallout I & II & Tactics, Torchlight, Neverwinter Nights I & II, Necropolis, The Last Remnant.

if you like quake, this year quake champions will probally come

I've still been playing the heck out of Overwatch, almost a year it's been out now. Currently I'm struggling with this new event's Legendary Difficulty achievement. I have every previous Overwatch event achievement but this, and I have a limited time window to do it! Has anyone done this?

not sure if we've already answered this before being brought back up UniCorN, but:

considering only single-player and the fact there is very little user input besides running & gunning
The new Wolfenstein games were really fun. The new Doom is also a lot of fun. The new Shadow Warrior 2 was a blast the bit i played so far. Another game, Lichdom: Battlemage, was a good first-person "shooter" but your right/left triggers are firing spells instead of guns.

Those are probably the only "simple shooters" i've enjoyed in quite a few years. I just need a little more complex gameplay options and a little more challenge mentally than most seem to offer anymore.

gta V is also a good shooter, car game and heist and can be online and ofline, its on you. If you like more campain, i suggest warframe and also halo series is comming to steam if anyone is interested. But right now im really enjoying csgo and rocket league.

I don't know about "favorite" as per thread title, I'll just update you on my latest experiences.

I've added two new titles to my gaming arsenal recently, Just Cause 3, and Hitman 2016. Both seem enjoyable to play, I'd say maybe more so Just Cause 3. I'm really enjoying the new gadgets. Even if the wingsuit is too skimpy to be realistic, it kinda fits with the crazy stunt nature. It's no less realistic than being able to easily stand atop a jet at full speed. LOL

At first I thought the unlimited explosive charges shown in the trailers would be too overpowering, but when you're faced with tanks, battle ships and attack helis constantly targeting you, they are necessary to avoid running out of ammo. They've thrown in enough to keep you moving a lot even with the constant supply of explosives.

I also really like the new ways of unlocking timed doors to access certain power structures, and the huge excavators, and the bavarium shields and weapons. And OMG, the Loochador is a hella boat when things get nasty at bases near water. However land driving is largely poor handling and/or laggy, and planes are a nightmare to fly.

I've only dabbled a little ways into Hitman 2016, having tracked the first and most obvious opportunities in a few levels. It's got it's ups and downs. I really hate that most of the stash options require playing with a net connection, even in sp. However the level detail and diverse opportunities seem to make up for it. A lot of those stash items don't make sense for covert sp play anyway.

I'd say between the two, Hitman is more optimized, but Just Cause 3 is more stunning to look at. Just Cause 3 seems to use more RAM, and now and then I get severe hitches while moving quickly through the air, but mostly just right after launching the game.

That said, Hitman has it's tech issues too. I managed to play a couple levels fine, but then toward the last half of the level in Italy, I started getting freeze crashes. I found most were saying this is caused by Dx12. I set it to Dx11 as suggested, but lost all my progress.

I really hope more devs start using Vulkan, and I hope Nvidia starts making their architecture more compute capable to make better use of it.

Currently playing Divinity Original Sin EE. Seems like it was totally designed for the gamepad and co-op play leading to clunky and tedious KB/M controls. Other than that the game is great. Still consider Pillars of Eternity to be better just because of the better controls.

I've got the new Hitman but I haven't started it yet. A friend ended up with several copies due to buying AMD products and I managed to get one from him.

I'll finally get back home today and back to Andromeda. I haven't been home to play for 10 days. I was enjoying it and haven't got to try it with the big patch they released that supposedly fixes some of the more....off....animations. Which really aren't as bad as I was expecting even before any fix.

I played Just Cause 2 for a few hours before I dropped it. It's what I call a GTA clone. Lots of running around blowing stuff up but never really DOING anything. Just not fun for more than a little while for me. As such I'll avoid Just Cause 3. I hope Hitman isn't like that.

couldn't help it, i bought Andromenda and have started it. i loved the first two and did enjoy the third so i had to give it a try. once again i am surprised how much i do enjoy it after a lot of off-putting articles and comments i've seen about story and engine problems. it is definitely a great looking game and i haven't had any troubles with gameplay. most of the odd facial/body animations have been fixed, the worst i see is strange eyes in some NPCs.
the worst thing about the game i've found is the character creation options. it took me 3 tries to get a male character that looked even remotely normal in the actual game world. the default heads/faces/hair provided are just a bad starting ground, having a totally blank canvas would be easier.

i spent quite a bit of time over the years just starting up Just Cause 2 and running & gunning everything in sight for a for minutes until it got boring again. don't even remotely have a clue what was going on story-wise. i thought about getting 3 to see if this was still as fun or better, i just have too much to play on the table now.

Started Yooka-Laylee last night. Absolutely loving it so far; it's nostalgic to me as it reminds me of the old Rare Nintendo 64 days. I believe it's the same developers that worked on Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. Not sure if they had anything to do with the other Banjo-Kazooie games. I played for 3 straight hours last night. Can't wait to get off work to dive back into it.

Actually JC has always been as much if not more so about the stunts than it is the demolition. Case in point, a lot of people agree that GTA V's story, characters and dialog get a bit over the top with in fighting, leaving most to horse around when bored. JC are games you can do tons of horsing around in.

And quite honestly, if you're put off by the repetition in JC, there is just as much in the new Hitman. Content isn't exactly it's forte. You only have two difficulty modes, Normal and Professional. In Normal mode there are several "Opportunities" (methods of dispatching the targets), but you are still playing through the same map and there are Intel objective markers that literally lead you the whole way.

The only way to play Hitman 2016 is on Professional, but even then, once you know how each Opportunity is set up, they don't take very long to achieve. It's a game with only a handful of locations and only 2 or 3 missions in each one. The game is well optimized and looks great, but honestly, I had more fun with Absolution, and it's combat works better too. In Hitman 2016 you'll want to play it almost entirely with stealth, esp on Pro mode.

People can say what they want about Absolution's same uniform NPCs spotting you too easily, and the arcade mark and execute feature, but the same uni awareness is still there with NPCs that are in paths of infil or exfil, and the mark and execute worked well to add to challenges and extend replay value.

Basically everything that people complained about with Abs is still here, it's just that maps are bigger, but content is way smaller. I don't know about you, but I don't think having to play the same missions over and over with different kill methods is as good as having a nice long campaign.

Taking a break from DA:I and replaying an old favorite: XCom Enemy Unknown. Right now I'm primarily using a laptop with integrated graphics, so I'm restricted to older, less-demanding games. I love the turn-based squad tactics, particularly in the early game. You get so many options in the late game that it can be a little overwhelming. Just completed a 'difficult' mission in Egypt with a squad of four grunts w/o energy weapons against eight aliens - and didn't take a scratch.

Enemy Unknown especially with the Enemy Within expansion is one of my favorite games.

Still playing World Of Tanks six or more years later. I was once amused when I read someone complaining that you can't consider World Of Tanks a modern game as it came out in 2010. They didn't realise that its constantly updated, they just don't call it WOT'16 and WOT'17 and charge you £50 each for the update.

For whoever wanted a low resource game. Defense Grid:The Awakening is still the best Tower Defense game out there. Picked my copy up for £1 through Steam and I'm over 800 hrs invested.

I love that game myself. Only played about 100 hours though. 😀

I still play Overwatch at least 2 or 3 times per week too. I've been doing this pretty consistently since the game launched almost a full year ago.

Right now I'm back into Heroes of the Storm. I used to play it a lot but haven't launched it in several months. This cross-promotion event they are running with Overwatch got me back in. Gotta get that sweet Officer D.Va skin!

Yeah I did the first Nexus Challenge cross promotion back in November. I remember I did 30 straight games against beginner level AI with 'friends' (people I added from the lobbies) and got all the rewards the first night. Now Oni Genji is available again Week 1 of this challenge but I had to play my 5 games again to be eligible for the Week 2 rewards, that SICK D.Va skin! I will be playing every week of this challenge.

Currently playing the Witcher 3, it is one of my absolute favorite series. Also playing Overwatch every other night.
I love RPGs and the Witcher is one the best of all time. I always play RPGs on the side, after this I would probably go back to Skyrim or Dark Souls series.

I finished Vtmb. I thoroughly enjoyed the game. The quests, dialog, atmosphere, were all brilliant. This is one of those kinds of games where you'll remember most of the characters whom you encountered, even if they only had small roles to play. You memorize every hub this game has to offer because of the absence of quest markers and you'll pay attention to the littlest of details. Also, this is one of the only games where playing a different clan actually leads to a whole new playthrough.

There were parts of the game that felt rushed or felt unexplained, just as I thought because the game was rushed out of development when it was first released. For me, the unofficial patch made the game really playable. I encountered very few bugs.

My main problem with the game was how we were treated like an errand boy. Yes, I know, plenty of other games have us doing errands and fetch quests but at least we had a purpose of our own and they mask it pretty well. The game explicitly states this, I mean, us being a puppet and we can barely do anything about this. In Vtmb, there are factions in the kindred society but you can't exactly change to any side until the very end.
I don't know if I should leave a spoiler tag since this game is more than a decade old but I'll do it anyway.

I joined up with the anarchs and beat the camarilla and the kuei jin. To be honest, I didn't want to side with any of the factions but I decided to join the anarchs anyway because I liked them more. Plus there were Jack and Nines who're pretty cool people.
I didn't open the Ankaran Sarcophagus. And thank goodness I didn't. I walked out of the building feeling like a total badass.
