On an IBM IntelliStation Z-Pro with dual Intel(R) Zeon(TM) 3.4 GHz got 4.4 for the Processor which seems low. Both the Graphics (NVIDIA Quadro FX 3400/4400) and the 15K SCSI drive measured 5.9 Can anyone suggest why the low processsor score?

I just got my new laptop! the index score recorded here is with factory defaults in place!. I wonder what the score will be when I adjust the settings? Component Details Subscore Base score....Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz

Memory (RAM) 6.0GB- index- 7.1
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M -index-6.8
Gaming graphics 1005MB Total available graphics memory-index- 6.8
Primary hard disk Total-index- 6.7

Don't know the specifics, but I got 5.2 on my HTPC which I am using to evaulate Win 7 64-Bit:

E6600 @ stock speed
4GB of RAM
9600GT
160GB WD HDD (7200rpm)

Update:

Apparently my old EIDE 160GB WD HDD (7200RPM) is my "bottleneck".

At least my 9600GT is giving me a score of 6.8.

I have to say I probably have one of the worst Windows Experience scores with my crap computer.

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ 3.2GHz
Memory (RAM): 3GB [2GB + 1GB DDR2 PC2 6400 800MHz RAM] *it will be 4GB after my other 2GB module comes in.
Graphics: ATI Radeon 3450 512MB Crossfire with ATI Radeon 3200 On board graphics *I have a 4850 ordered so hopefully it will raise the score as graphics is my lowest score
Primary hard disk: OEM Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB

I hope the 4850 + 2 or 1GB of Ram will raise the scores a bit.
I'll get a phenom later

I know the blog you're referring to, and I'm sure they were stating it was the way hard drives use their cache rather than SSD vs. mechanical. Either way, there is in fact an artificial cap on the WEI score in Win 7. People are lulled into thinking that their hard drives are performing worse than they actually are... and then become convinced that they absolutely NEED a SSD. I've never completely trusted the WEI score and after this, I know I never will. People are spending a lot more money for a lot less hard drive space because they're convinced they need to to get good performance. I'm hoping your post will prove once and for all that it's totally not necessary.

I wouldn't worry too much about the WEI scores. I've recently upgraded my main platform in preparation for the Gulftown release in March and was very surprised that my HD WEI score in W7P came out as 6.5 (the lowest score)

I'm using 8x1Tb WD RE3 drives in a RAID 6 configuration, connected via a Highpoint 3522 (includes a dedicated I/O processor and needs a PCIE8 slot).

I appreciate that SSDs have lower latency but I'm still surprised the score is so low, even allowing for the RAID 5/6 write 'hole'. CrystalMark benches at a peak of over 900MB/s for the array.

Q6600 G0 @ 3.4
4x 2GB 8800CL5
P5Q Deluxe
4870 512 MB
X25-M G2 80GB
2x 320GB Seagate 613AS
125GB ea RAID-0 XP + Pagefile
175GB ea RAID-1 Media + Backup

Switched to W7 once I got the SSD a couple weeks ago, blazing fast compared to XP on a (kinda) short stroked RAID-0

No over clocking Going to give the overclocking a go tomorrow to see what I can come up with. Getting a decent HDD score IS NOT EASY.

All on stock settings. Seems that the OC engine in my Asus P7P55D Evo motherboard doesn't like me very much. Tried OCing from the default 2.8GHz to a mere 3.0GHz without tampering with volts and everything done automatically, machine went berserk, so i uninstalled TurboV and remained at stock speeds =\ But the score is not bad considering it is on stock speeds. I'll be getting an extra OCZ DDR3 4GB (2x2GB) Dual-channel modules in a week or so, 4GB of RAM on a 64bit OS just doesn't cut it anymore. I'm not too concerned about my graphics, I'll wait till summer and maybe get a Nvidia 260GTX 896MB (currently running a Nvidia 8800GTS 640MB).

I can only imagine if i successfully manage to get it in the >3GHz range + my extra 4GBs of RAM making it 8GB, i should be looking at considerably better performance and possibly a WEI score of ~7.7
