When and what should be my next upgrade?

So I recently just bought and built this rig a month ago

i3 4170
h81m-ds2
msi gtx 750 ti 2gb oc
Apatop (2x4gb) ram 1600mhz
an old 500w psu

I am asking how long will this build be able to play games at 720p in the future?

Lastly, when should I upgrade and what should I upgrade to.

When? when it can't play the games you want to play.

CPU is always the best thing to upgrade if you're just wanting it to run faster but for better frames in newer games you'll probably need a new GPU

if your a avide gamer i would upgrade ASAP but if you dont game that much or play games that dont need a good pc you should be fine. but if i were in your shoes i would upgrade now.

I'd agree with Logain, a new PSU would be a good idea. You could probably go for a lower wattage and save on power, or go for something higher, leaving with you with legroom for upgrades. Otherwise I'd say that's a good mid range spec for 720p.

What case are you using? you could maybe look at optimising the cooling vs noise, if that's something that might bother you
