Question When I change my computers IP from DHCP to a manual ip address it doesn't change

I am using the xfinity modem as my router. When I log into the settings I can change the IP to static for every device except for my desktop. I have tried changing the IP on my desktop to static, but that doesn't do anything. For my laptop all I had to do was go into the router settings and change it from DHCP to Manual. Anyone know how I can fix this? I just want to play minecraft with my friends.

When I go into the settings and change it for my computer it reacts like it did when it actually changed it for my laptop and phone, but when the devices page loads again it says "DHCP" next to my desktop instead of "Reserved IP".

My guess is that it is because you are logged into the router and it won't let you change the address you are logged-in from. Have you tried logging into the router from the laptop to change the desktop IP ?

Yes, I have tried doing it from my laptop and it didn't work. I changed the address of my laptop from my laptop...

What benefit are you trying to get? Do you want to run a game server or similar? If so, you can set a static IP on the device rather than on the router. Just be sure that the address is outside the DHCP range of the router. If you have to, you can shrink the DHCP range. You probably only need 50 addresses in the DHCP range -- ie 2 - 50 or 100 - 150, etc.

When I change the IP on my computer my router overrides it and reverts it back to what it was before.

When I change the IP in Network and Sharing center>Wi-Fi Status then wait a minute and go back in my IP address changes back to what the router says.

You can setup the DHCP server to give you a static IP address based on your MAC address.
