When to download anti-virus?

I'm downloading my first computer from the ground up and I'm just wondering when exactly I should install the antivirus program.. I'm going to download a free version for the time being as my last post came to the consensus that the free versions are about as good as the paid versions.. Unless anybody here convinces me that's a bad idea.. anyway I'll have to download the free anti-virus software from the internet, so should I install it to the computer as soon as windows is installed? Or should I download the drivers and windows updates first? does it matter?

For the most part, I install in the following order:

1) Operating System
2) Latest Drivers (pre-downloaded)
3) Windows Updates
4) Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware
5) Software Programs
6) Software Patches

Wouldn't bother. Most are crap and crash anyway. Use the Windows one
