I'm planning on building a gaming PC with these:

i5 6500 3.2Ghz
MSI GTX980 Gaming 4G
MSI H170 Gaming M3
Kingston HyperX Savage Black 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2133Mhz CL13

1-) Will there be any bottleneck? (with or without overclock)
2-) I'll never go beyond 1080p in gaming. Will this GTX980 give me solid ultra graphics performance for the next 5-6 years until I finish my education and build a highest end computer with my first paycheck? 😀

Solution
Games now already can max out the 980, even at 1080p. The 980ti is at least a better future proof investment. The 980 isn't much faster than a 970 and behind the 980ti and falls in kind of a crappy no one wants it zone.
I would say 3 years in my opinion as my MSI GTX 970 4GB can go up to 50-80% vysnced sometimes on ultra in games of course depending on the chosen game.

Right now i'm slightly CPU limited in some games as some games aren't very good as using the CPU efficiently.

980 is already old.. But it all depends on how low you are willing to put the settings and what features you need for future games (async computer/shaders) I don't expect the 980 to age well in the DX12 world. (Partly because Nvidia tends to help make its older hardware obsolete sooner by using funky settings (gameworks) and by doing odd things in the drivers).

All GPUs get old just as soon as you bought it.

Will you be running 4K next year? None of the current solutions really have the power to do it justice currently. Most high tier cards can only just be VR recommended. That's not much wiggle room for the future.

You just have to ask yourself if the card you purchase runs the games you have now and possibly intend to play in the next year will be at an acceptable fps/quality for you.

Don't expect any GPU to last longer than a year and you won't be disappointed when it is struggling. If you buy a top end cards then you'll want top end performance and visuals. I am still running my 780ti from 2013 and currently waiting for Pascal depending how it performs.

According to Game-Debate, GTX 780ti still gives 10/10 performance and enough to surpass the recommended GPU's in latest games. And I do know hardwares get old, my 3 years old Mobility Radeon HD 5000 laptop GPU could run Black Ops with solid 40 FPS in 2010 but a month ago I installed the game for some good nostalgia and It couldn't pass 10 FPS in lowest resolution.

I'm curious. Will Pascal be in GTX980 price and more performance or more expensive and powerful than Titan X?
