When will prices soften?

I've been monitoring my newegg wishlists for about 4 months now, and the prices have barely moved down. Occasional and temporary rebates move it within $5, but that's not sustained. What has to happen in the economy or in the industry in order for CPU and hard drive prices to drop?

My past experience indicates that newer technologies drive existing prices down, making it easier for those not so bent on leading edge stuff to find deals. I'm just not seeing the price reductions I thought we'd be seeing by now.

Thought?

CPU prices never drop that much. Even Socket 1366 CPU's, such as the 17-960, are near the same price as the 17-2600K. The 17-2600K is currently $320 while the 17-960 is $300. Far as hard drives, that was due to the floods of Thailand that ruined the hard drive factories. The last I read was by early 2013 they will go back to normal.
typically new technologies displace old tech which was brought at a price, therefore it becomes difficult to sell below that price. New tech price = old tech price + a bit.

You are getting more power for your money than this time last year or the year before, or to me more correct than at any point in the past. There is nothing wrong with that is there? If you want the same amount of power then you can get something cheaper. GtX 450 is probably similar an 8800GTX but costs 1/3rd of the price?
