Where are my SATA cables?

Hello everyone,
I am in the process of building my first PC and have been confused as to how I connect all of the cables and where. At the moment I am figuring out my SSD and HDD; I have connected their power cables but can't find any of the other cables that need to be connected. Am I right in saying that the HDD and SSD both need two cables each? Is it normal not to have any of the SATA cables with the powersupply/case/drives?

Hello Minecarrot,

Yes, your drives need the broader SATA power cables AND the thinner SATA data cables plugged in. The power cables run directly from your power supply, the data cables should have come with your motherboard and run directly from the drive to the motherboard.

Example of what the SATA data cables look like (yours might not be red, and you might not have the 'L' connector at the top):

If the SSD is a SATA SSD, then yes, it needs two cable: One from the power supply and a SATA cable from the Motherboard. Usually the SATA cables come with the motherboard: Very occasionally one might come with a retail packaged Hard drive. Look in the mobo box.
If you do Not find any then you may have to buy them at your local electronics store. I think I have even seen them in the electrical/electronics section of my local Home Depot. And of course, you can get them through on line sources and often for far less $$ then at a brick-and-mortar store.
