Where do I connect this on my motherboard?

My motherboard is an ASUS P8Z68-V LE.

I need to hook up my external soundcard via Firewire, and I wasn't aware that this board didn't have firewire connections. Although, my sound card has Optical ins, and this motherboard has Optical outs. Is that a better/faster/more reliable way to go anyways? I've never used Optical connections for anything before...

Thanks for any help.

Its fire wire not USB. If the bracket came with the motherboard there will be a place to plug it in. There's absolutely no reason to tell someone a pci one is better if the board has a fire wire header, its not. That's a direct plugin to the fire wire controller on the board

There should be pins where you would normally hook up USB drives, they should look like the exact opposite of the connector. Try tracing the USB ports from the case to the MOBO. You should have bought one with a PCI Connection, its much better.

The connector with red cable is eSATA one. The other one looks like FireWire connector to me, not USB one. I can't see the bracked, there is some lettering there which would tell what is this.

If this is the case, you most probably do not need to connect this, unless you have some device (e.g. tape video camera) which you would connect to transfer video.

I should have clarified, I'm sorry.

This fire wire bracket didn't come with this mobo. I just found it laying around in my office. It originally came with some old Radeon card I have. I was just thinking this was some sort of universal type of a connector. It's sort of sounding like I should just avoid using this thing...

In that case, I'd better just go the optical route, because my mobo DOES have that. I've just never used any type of optical connection on any computer device before...not really sure what to make of it. Can I just go to my local Best Buy and pick up a cable of this type?

EDIT: I just ended up ordering a new firewire card. Thanks for the help!
