Hi

My asus mini pc still works fine, except for the psu fan, it's time to replace it because its making much noise

I have no idea what type of fan this is, or where i can purchase one. I need a quiet one. Stores don't sell it around here, maybe i can get it from aliexpress but i have no clue what to look for.

Does any of you know? I have a picture here

I have litteraly nothing in my house atm to measure it, but i believe its like 40mm x 40mm x 20mm

It is about 2000-3000 rpm slower than the stock fan.

As long as your old fan was not having to max out it should be usable. It is a sleeve bearing fan, these tend to be a bit more quiet, but the do not last as long. I would be keeping an eye on the system when first swapping a fan.

My media center power supply fan(along with some others over the years) was switched out for a slower one, but I monitor the fan speed and know the power supply is never that heavily loaded.

Has your fan always been loud or is this something that happened with time.
It is a 40mm fan. The thickness is about 20mm. This is important because if a fan is too thin, it will not suck air from the power supply due to the opening in the unit.

Your model number is on the fan as 4020th12b-pd1 Even if you get another similar fan that has 3 wires and do not use the yellow speed sense wire it will work.

Your power rating is 0.26amps if I see right making it about a 3 watt fan. That is a FAST fan compared to Noctua units. My 0.07amp Scythe 40 x 40 x 20mm fan spins at 3500 rpm so I can imagine your is much faster(but controlled by the power supply).

If you put a fan that is too slow, you may overheat the unit.

Thank you aswell for some very usefull information.

What amount of RPM would be concidered "quiet" but yet "hopefully" good enough to cool my PSU?

I can atm only find ones that are 4000+ RPM, thats too loud right?,

Most computer power supplies will vary the fan speed so even if you had a 7000 rpm fan, if the power supply slowed it to 3000, chances are it would not be too bad(pretty quiet).

Small fans simply have to turn very fast to move any air.

At 3500 my 40x40x20mm thick Scythe fans are rated at 4.86cfm. Even the slowest 80mm fan pushes more air. Space was a concern so the power supply uses what it can.

If you happen to have a multimeter(set to DC volts for the next range above 15 volts to leave some room), you may be able to see if your power supply is varying the voltage on the stock fan.

I don't have that,

Still looking for one, can't really find a silent one, or i'm just looking wrong.

Concidering this one.. http://nl.aliexpress.com/item/Free-Shipping-AVC-D4020B12H-4020-4cm-40mm-0-17A-2-pin-DC-12V-case-silent-cooling/1866040139.html?spm=2114.010208.3.132.D2U2Z6&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_7,searchweb201602_5_10034_10033_507_10020_10017_10005_10006_10021_10022_10009_10008_10018_10019,searchweb201603_7&btsid=a5b6596b-4070-4029-89aa-cb47389ef3ca

The stock fan is something in the 8000-9000 rpm range.

If the fan was not overly loud before, chances are the power supply was controlling it.

If you buy a 3 pin fan you have to swap the plug and not use the speed sense wire(normally yellow). You will most likely have to use the plug you already have from the old fan.

Yeah the power supply controls it. When i boot it goes insanely fast but when windows loads it gone down alot (still loud)

Gonna order this one i guess, hope it makes any diffrence

After searching for ever, i finally found a decent fan that's quiet too.

I hope it will do the job, as it's spinning alot slower - 16 db. with the old fan the pc used to run a i3 2100 and GTS 520, on 200W
But i removed the GPU as im planning on using it as media center.
So i hope as it uses much less power, it's gonna do the job, and not overheat
Anyway thanks for the help!

p.s yeah i made a picture of the wire placement, before i removed my old fan.
